retep   69 #709 Posted August 17, 2010 ..it's not 'bull' Bassman, it's a simple fact of life, if immigrants didn't work in the NHS then it would collapse-instantly. They don't all come from the third world or impoverished backgrounds by the way, my youngest was brought into the world by a very urbane African and his German sidekick. Your rosy tinted view or post war Britain, is myopic since the the NHS developed quickly and demanded foreign labour. Hattie Jacques would have been reduced to emptying bedpans if she'd been relying solely on indigenous labour  Now something you forget about the NHS is there are standard pay scales, you cant recruit someone from abroad and pay them less for doing the same job as their British counterpart, so it isn't a case of cheap labour replacing expensive labour. The public will not pay more in taxes to support higher levels of pay, in fact the desire is to have even lower expenditure on public services.  In one case highlighted by Prof Isles, the hospital was offered a general medicine SHO (senior house officer). The agency said: "If he is of interest, snap him up as he won't be around for long as his CV looks brilliant."  But buried in the CV, Prof Isles said, was a reference from a UK consultant who said his skills were only equivalent to a doctor in their first or second year out of medical school. The consultant said he would be suitable for a post under close supervision, so the hospital decided not to continue http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/news/Locum-doctors-putting-patients-39at.6390812.jp
 Share this content via...
Wildcat   10 #710 Posted August 17, 2010 The xray was queried and the assistant asked my name and details, then put the correct xray in the scanner. Unfortuately for you they'll never get your head out, it's firmly stuck in an oriface, you have my sympathy.  So the doctor didn't mistake your foot for a neck at all or at least not once he had looked at the x-ray.  The fact he picked the wrong x-ray up initially is hardly a cause for major concern now is it?
