*_ash_* Â Â 88 #49 Posted December 27, 2008 Having just completed a Level 3 course in Food Hygiene, I think I may never go out in public again. Â Level 3? I'm not sure what I did RosyRat, as I lost the certs.. Â I did ones required for bar work and cooking food, and didn't eat properly for about 6 months. Deerobe   10 #50 Posted December 27, 2008 This thread reminds me of when I took the car in for a service last week. Dropped it off at Hatfields at Hunters Bar and decided to walk back into town and do a bit of shopping. Trotting down Eccy Road I passed all the coffee bars with nice looking people sat outside with a latte and a paper enjoying the crisp winters morning.  My journey ended outside Wilkinsons on Waingate where I encountered a young girl, 16ish, cover one nostril and blow snot out the other!  It seriously got me wondering why a lack of money means a lack of decorum?  Don't blame that behaviour on lack of money. It is lack of respect that is the problem.
 Share this content via...
Deerobe   10 #51 Posted December 27, 2008 I think you'll find being too clean will only make u more prone to bugs more than someone who is a little more dirty than yourself.  I think you will find that the behaviours described in this thread are the ones that spread the vilest of diseases such as TB and flu (both of which kill). I remember as a child in the fifties there was a huge campaign to stop people spitting. Then later came the coughs and sneezes spread diseases campaign. As a result the general health of the UK population improved. We seem to be going backwards.
 Share this content via...

Frank Sidney   11 #53 Posted December 27, 2008 These people are scum - absolute scum. The number of times I see blokes walk out of toilets without washing their hands is amazing. Vile filth. As for spitting, I'd happily see those filthy bezonians wiped out. They should all go and live elsewhere. They could create a new town somewhere called SCUMLAND. They're horrible. I want to sort them out. What can we, the decent citizens of Sheffield, do about the flotsam and jetsam of society? SOLUTIONS PLEASE?  i dont know where your winky has been if you have to wash it everytime youve touched it:hihi:
 Share this content via...
Frank Sidney   11 #54 Posted December 27, 2008 Anyway surely washing your hands in a toilet is less hygenic. How many people just out of the cubicle / urinal, touch the tap with unwashed hands prior to the next person. Probably hundreds.  Another point is that the reason we have so many illnesses is that we are not immune to anything anymore because of constant washing and disinfecting. Especially in relation to kids who get put through a sheep dip if they touch a worm.
 Share this content via...
nerd   10 #55 Posted December 28, 2008 Anyway surely washing your hands in a toilet is less hygenic. There is a big difference to having a good immunity to a general level of germs and bacteria - as has been quite rightly mentioned, some exposure to relatively harmless bugs is good for you - provided you have a functioning immune system in the first place.  The thing is there are a large number of people in our city who are undergoing chemotherapy (we have the specialist cancer hospital remember) and for them what to us would be a minor bug could quite easily prove fatal.  The other important difference is the type of bugs we are being exposed to - due to foolish people not immunising their children we have lost the "herd immunity" required to prevent outbreaks of illnesses such as measles, mumps and rubella, which can have extremely serious consequences. We have far higher numbers of people living in the city nowadays who have travelled from countries where TB is prevalent. Illnesses like flu can kill the elderly, the very young and those with other health problems such as asthma.  So while I agree that in some circumstances it is good to build a small tolerance I am talking about the spreading of serious illness through the ignorance, lack of manners and disgusting behvaiour of a growing minority.
