Soldier traveling without credentials

Recommended Posts

It gets better. The Mirror calls him a "veteran".

It also says "Zach had been serving in Um Qasar where he had been stationed with the One Rifles guarding a naval port, escorting troops and patrolling."

Um Qasar. Hardly Basra in the level of danger.

Maybe so, but I'm comparing him to some friends of mine who were real heroes in the first Gulf War or risked their lives as medics in Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq.

PS My arse is quite pert! It's just a shame that your argument consists of responding with personal insults about other forummers.

some of you are forgetting he has been in a war zone for 6 months his life in constant danger and he had been traveling 3 days to come home. I`d have done the same he is a guy wanting to get home to his family and he gets a bloke on a power trip having ago at him. He had full uniform and all his gear so anyone with comon sense can see he`s in the forces.

if thats how we treat our forces thats sad.

Your implying that you to are a common thug then? Our military are deserving of the highest praise but he needs to learn to be a gentleman and uphold the reputation of our forces. He has an obligation not to carry on like a nob and give justification to the scum that abuse our forces in the street for having the uniform on!

It's common pratice, if you have your MOD90 but don't have your railcard - you pay full fare. It's just bad admin by the guy alas to lose his railcard, although dressed in dessies with CBA etc you think the conductor might cut him some slack, but he's doing no wrong by not.

Depends how the conversation goes and how potlie he was in his initial request.

Well, coppers get free transport by just flashing their warrant cards...but that's a different discussion.

I think the problem a lot of people have is the attitude of the inspector, ie "its not as if you've taken a bullet".. what a chimp.

That would be equally unacceptable. Was he driven to make that comment tho?

he should have been given the benefit of the doubt. one of our lads who represents our country.

I'd have let him off if his behavior warranted it but if he was giving it the big un I'd have detained him. Did we establish this detail, i.e how the situation started before said victim has a moment of rage? No, probably not being the pile of dog snot such is the Star!

My views seem to go in favor of the conductor but only due to the fact that as someone said, the Soldier lost the moral high ground. When he's popping off in full uniform it's tantamount to a call centre agent losing their rag on the phone! That said, why does anyone with an MOD90 card need a railcard if everyone with an MOD90 card is entitled to a rail card? ie. he has an MOD90 card so he's got a rail card somewhere!! It's not like the conductor has to scan it. Stupid red tape, and unnecessary expense typical of this country, and if he's even managed to pay for a discounted ticket then I do have to ultimately take his side from a moral and common sense perspective if not a technical one!

As Heyesey so correctly points out, there is no room for discussion or disagreement here. [ A bit strange, come to think of it ? Why are we all here ? ] Anyway, the soldier was a downright criminal and nothing else.

In the same way, say an 85 year old person gets on a bus and has forgotten their bus pass, then they MUST be made to pay the full fare, and no mistake. Similarly, if a person is rushing a friend into hospital and parks illegally, for even a few minutes, they MUST be prosecuted and made an example of. Otherwise, if we let such people off, it's the thin end of the wedge and could eventually lead to the downfall of Old Blighty.

No wonder we have all these muggers and killers roaming around. Soft on the O.A.P. today---soft on the serial killer tomorrow. Tut tut !

Spot on.

No room for common sense in this crazy black and white world.

Yes, Vanos, subtlety, common-sense, judgement and interpretation in our ' tick box ' wonderland is fast disappearing. It must be great for Control Freaks. They don't really have to think at all or make any sort of moral judgement. They've got their rules from above and they just have to mechanically dish the same rules out to those further down the line. It's exactly how the Nazis, to take an extreme case, found it so easy to control Germany after 1933, despite a pre-1933 sizeable opposition to Nazi-ism. Think of the advantages for the bureaucrat ! A guaranteed salary, no decision-making to bother with......plus a wonderful feeling of power over the enemy [ i.e. the tax-payer ].

Apportioning the blame is difficult, though. Is it the sheep-like acceptance of the system ? Did the system emerge from the sheep as a natural process ? Are there sinister manipulators who organised the system, knowing there were enough sheep to do the job ? Probably a bit of verything, I guess ?
