KenH   10 #13 Posted October 23, 2007 If its sheffield Girls high then that is the best in all terms in sheffield.  Why has a child from the manor more chance of getting in there than to silverdale? I didnt think Silverdale cost £8000 a year, which Sheffield Girls High does.  The reason it is easier is that you stand almost no chance whatsoever of getting into a great many Sheffield schools unless you live in the catchment area. Even if they have spare places then people from the manor would be almost at the bottom of the list because they use distance as the major criteria. The High School, on the other hand, do have various entrance criteria including writing cheques, but it is perfectly possible for bright girls from anywhere to get into the school for little or no fees. stressconsul   10 #18 Posted March 19, 2011 As in most cities the better state schools are in the wealthier areas, which in Sheffield is the South West. Notre Dame, Tapton, Silverdale, High Storrs, King Edwards, King Ecgberts, in roughly that order.
 Share this content via...

gnvqsos   10 #21 Posted March 19, 2011 On a serious note, on almost all measures it is clearly the High School for Girls which is best in terms of outcome, expectations, ambition, behaviour, choice of subjects, etc etc.  does not score high for boys so fails 50% population, and having tuored many such pupils much attainment is not attributable to the school, but to parental expenditure. gnvqsos   10 #22 Posted March 19, 2011 Each schools website has a link to their offstead report, you can read up on them there. There are also league tables produced that will show exam results and other areas they are scored on.  Yes the OFSTED report is even more useful than the offstead/instead/offshore etc!
