Pyrotequila   437 #1 Posted August 18, 2018 Body scanners will be used on the Los Angeles subway to screen passengers for explosives and weapons, the local transport authority has announced. It is the first mass transport system in the US to adopt the technology.  Portable scanners will be used to screen passengers as they enter stations, without them having to pass through a security checkpoint.  Authorities said the screening would be "voluntary", but those refusing a scan will not be allowed to travel.  https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/technology-45222815  So it's not really voluntary then is it? If you refuse a scan you can't use the transport?
 Share this content via...

Pyrotequila   437 #3 Posted August 18, 2018 good idea it should be brought in everywhere!  Yeah, I don't see why anyone would have an issue with it. It doesn't emit any radiation, it just reads body heat.
 Share this content via...

blake   10 #10 Posted August 21, 2018 good idea it should be brought in everywhere!  they don't work. The Israelis took one look - well, more than look, obviously - at them and said they were rubbish and worse than useless because they impart a false sense of security. They weren't buying them and haven't introduced them in Tel Aviv where the security is by a considerable distance, the best in the world. Top Cats Hat   10 #11 Posted August 21, 2018 hold on the civil rights lot will be along shortly:roll:  Yes because civil rights are such a terrible thing.  As has been said in another post, these things are just a PR exercise to give an impression of safety, like the taking of bottles of water from people at airports.  A public airport security check is the last place any serious terrorist would be anywhere near if they wanted to smuggle anything onto a plane.
