Nearby Liverpool doesn't have half as many problems with the long running and more secure Citybike scheme:

which is basically the same scheme we used to have in Sheffield only ours were blue. In fact, I think our original docked bikes ended being sold on to Liverpool for spare parts

In all fairness though, bicycles are the main mode of transport in Liverpool.

 

Cars are a luxury on merseyside, and because everyone already has a bike there is no need to hire a citybike and then vandalise it.

Docked bikes don't get vandalised, but they cost a lot more to setup.

 

indeed. The university has no plans to go back into the docked bike market. It was well used but always a loss maker. Waiting to see if Mobike want in

 

You may have seen all the docking station have now been removed across the city
