Add yourself to the caller preference list. That'll stop 90% of them, the other 10% becoming a fun pastime (tell them you just need to get a pen and paper to take down their name so you can report them and see how fast the 'phone ges down ).

Rivelin in Sheffield City Centre?
-
Hi all Anywhere in the City centre I can buy some army type boots? I know there is JJs out on London road for the real deal, but assuming that is plan b, any suggestions for plan a? I feel like there is another army surplus shop nearer...

My apologies Gran (can I call you Gran?), I have neglected my duties as a wildlife correspondent. I did see another new species the other day, it was a type of hedgehog I think, but it seems to have evolved to be half an inch thick and almost circular! I propose to call it a frishog.

I confess I'm intrigued... How do you brand an ear stud? They're tiny!

You know what you need to do, one up them! They pretend to have whiplash, you pretend your arm has been torn off! For added realism actually tear your arm off (protip: keep it on ice till the ambulance arrives). Let's see them claim for whiplash then!

I understand what you are saying, and it's a serious issue, but that made me lol

Queen street 'incident' earlier today
Spikie replied to Spikie's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Just up from U4Coffee, and the car eventually realised he had plenty of space if he mounted the kerb (or if he reversed), while the bus could only go forwards as it had a line of traffic behind it. It took the bus driver, 2 passengers and a woman from the queue explaining things to the car driver before his brain shifted into action, though he gave us all a fun show with his rude gestures and all the time he spent photographing the bus. -
Queen street 'incident' earlier today
Spikie replied to Spikie's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I was trying not to be specific as I am clear in my mind which of the parties involved was in the wrong, but there are two sides to every story. Basically I lack the ability to tell the story in a balanced way... But in a nutshell, a bus was overtaking a line of parked cars and a car coming the other way meant they both had to stop... Then sit there for 5 mins or so while traffic queued behind them. -
Did anyone else see the worlds most stubborn/ignorant man holding up the traffic on Queen street earlier today? Every window on the street seemed to have someone hanging out of it enjoying the street theatre

Confused by my router and how it connects to the wall
Spikie replied to Spikie's topic in Computer & Tech Chat
Thank you very much. Just so I'm clear, I'm looking for an 'Ethernet cable' (that's what I always know them as)? Does this go by other names (patch cables seem to look awfully like them)? I'd hate to pass up on a suitable cable because I didn't realise it was in fact what I wanted but by another name! Also, there are WiFi Bridges on ebay that claim to make my box wireless for a fraction of the cost Sky want to charge me, do they work? -
Confused by my router and how it connects to the wall
Spikie replied to Spikie's topic in Computer & Tech Chat
So if it's a toss up between 30 feet of RJ45 (or whatever the wall to router cable is) or 30 feet of Ethernet, it's Ethernet all the way? -
When we moved in to our property I had trouble getting my router to connect to the internet. Only when I noticed that, next to the telephone socket, there was another little socket which (forgive my laymen terms, if I try and speak the lingo I will use the wrong words) took the little plug that normally I would plug into my filter. So every other house, it went router then cable with small plug on each end one end in router one in microfilter. Always worked fine. Now if I do that I can't connect to the net. But if I plug into the wall socket direct it works. This would be great, except ideally I want the router on the other side of the house. There is an ideally located socket, but as I say, it won't let me onto the net! Madness? Or to be expected? Has what is normally one cable that is then split at the filter become 2 cables, meaning the telephone socket can't access the net (as the cable that lets it do it isn't connected to that slot)? If so... ummm, really long cable with small plugs at each end? Can you get one that is... 30 feet long?

Motorbike Parking at Meadowhall
Spikie replied to SevenFifty's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I tend to go with the principle of: if my bike fits there and it won't obstruct anyone, I park there. I used to park at the train station push bike spot, but that was when I had a smaller bike. Outside Argos out of the way is now my usual spot. -

Or the OP could insure it on his behalf. -

Haha, I passed a sign today that said '40mph - school', that made me titter. The same as when I drive up Ecclesfield road, it's 30 till you get to the school, then it's 40 I tend to go through Penistone road when it isn't gridlocked, but I know what you mean about not being able to get to even 30. Also, the road in parts is trashed, but I'd just slow down there. I don't use it enough to start a campaign, it's pure idle curiosity
-
Ive often wondered, why is a long fairly straight and largely non residential dual carriageway 30mph? I assume there's a reason I'm not seeing? Just something I often wonder

OMG how can they justify the huge price hike in ASDA ?
Spikie replied to Eric_Collins's topic in General Discussions
My Jelly Squirms have gone from 99p to £1.78, no sign of them going back down either Look at it this way, I used to spend 99p a week on them (at least); since they passed £1.20 I've bought 2 bags. -
As said above, HMRC should really help you with this, they shouldn't just leave you in the lurch not understanding. But they can be less than helpful, I know from experience. HMRC are currently very keen on chasing people they think are self employed but who haven't registered at such, they may have made a mistake with you. If you get nowhere with HMRC and want professional help, drop me a pm. I work at an accountants in the centre of Sheffield and I'd be happy to help sort things out.
