Stocksbridge bus service. Why so dire?
scooby22 replied to Michael_N's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Another issue with the 57 is the change of time. My son used to have time to leave the High School at 3pm and run down the hill to catch the bus back to Wadsley. The bus now leaves about 5 mins earlier so he had no hope of getting it and has to catch the SL1 and walk up Langsett Avenue. He would love to use the 57 service but the changes made to it mean he cannot. This will be another nail in the coffin for the service and no doubt used as a reason to remove it altogether. Same thing happened (many years ago) to the 87 service going up Wood Lane in Stannington. They made the service so unreliable you had to use the 88 instead and have a 10 min walk through a field (or longer through an estate) to ensure you could get home. The service was then removed as no one used it!! -

Newfield school to busy to show new student around
scooby22 replied to Cat70's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I would think carefully about about sending your child to a school that are not happy to show you around first. I had a similar response from the school my daughter was looking to change to. When I queried it, they just said that no one had asked to view it first! They were very welcoming when we visited and we were happy then to complete the transfer form. -

Can definitely recommend Steve at AB Aerials - he has done lots of work for us in the past, and he is always the first person we call if we have any issues

Malin Bridge or Marcliffe Primary School
scooby22 replied to eighteenofou's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The problem with asking this question is very few parents will have tried out both schools. Those with children who have been to one will always rate if over the other. My two children have gone through Marlcliffe and both have done well there. The current leadership team have really cracked down on bad behaviour and particularly low level persistant bad behaviour, ie 'messing around'. Other aspects that Marlcliffe offer include a residential trip to France in Y6 as well as other residential trips lower down the school. They work hard with the children to ensure they reach their potential. I have no experience of Malin Bridge so cannot comment on how they differ. Remember that league tables are not everything -
'Forge Valley have failed ofsted inspection
scooby22 replied to Steve70's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
There was actually 6 governors at the meeting, it was only the Chair who was answering the questions which is why some people may have thought she was the only one there. All of the governors who were there stayed until the very end of the meeting and made themselves available for any questions. -
Problem with HSBC foreign call centres
scooby22 replied to willowwisp2's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
I used to bank with HSBC for many years without any problem. However, when you do have a problem their customer service was dire. We actually had their paid for current account for about 18 months and I used to laugh that they answered with something along the lines of 'by having this account you are speaking to a UK call centre' We then found out the main benefit of the account , for which we had signed up for, (interest refunded on completion of a loan) had been mis-sold to us and we could not claim it back. To be fair to them, after we complained they refunded all our premiums and reverted the account back again. We left the bank soon after and moved to Yorkshire Bank who have been fantastic - and they have UK call centres. -

I think they need to supply a magnifying glass with the new directories! -
I've had a few deals with KGB and never had any problems. I find them very good and have never had a company refuse to honour the deal like I have with Groupon. Then again, it is hit and miss as I have also had some good deals with Groupon.

I love ParentPay - especially as I have now worked out how to see what they have spent their money on! It is far easier for parents, students and the school :-)

Forge Valley School: Uniform problems
scooby22 replied to Steve70's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I can shed some light on the shortness of the skirts. My daughter, age 11, tried on the skirts from Pinders at the uniform ordering night. The smallest size they brought was age 10. The length was fine but the waist was far too large. Pinders told me they would be able to get one to fit her waist, maybe an age 7-8, but the length would be 'on the short side'. We had the same problem with their trousers. The problem is Pinders do not sell skirts or trousers with adjustable waists, and therefore do not cater for children who are slim, as most other uniform suppliers do. To be honest, their answer was to go to M&S or other shops where I would be able to get ones that would fit. Luckily, M&S have skirts and trousers that are the right colour and fit perfectly so we passed the first day inspection -
Are rich people getting away with driving bans.
scooby22 replied to cuttsie's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The exceptional hardship claim can only be made once in a three year period, ie for the duration of the points it was claimed against. As the name suggests, the hardship has to be 'exceptional' as the court acknowledges that any driving ban will cause hardship for most people. You don't need a fancy lawyer to defend you in court, but you do need proof of the hardship it will cause. You cannot just turn up and say 'I'll lose my job if I lose my licence' and expect that to be the end of it. -
Court summons for none payment of council tax
scooby22 replied to kel-lou's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The main thing is to make an arrangement and stick to it. If you are on a low income, ask the council if you are entitled to any benefits/reductions. If you continue not paying, you will eventually end up back in court for commital proceedings and will have a suspended prison sentance hanging over you. In short - contact them and pay! -
I had a problem with a Jet station a few years ago. The garage I took the car to assumed that as I was a woman, I could not work out which fuel to put in my car as they found diesel in the petrol tank. I contacted Jet who confirmed there had been cross-contamination and paid for all the repairs, a replacement tak of fuel and an ex-gratia payment. They did not advertise the fact there was a problem, but accepted responsibility for it. Did you keep your receipt to prove you purchased the fuel from them? A report from your garage would help prove your case. Send them the estimate for the repairs and the ruined fuel and best of luck!
