  1. Hope you don't mind me asking, but is it Wilson Place you thinking of ? I lived on Carter Road, and I also remember Ray Shackleton, but his brothers name escapes me. The house on the corner of Wilso Place was a pawnshop with blacked out windows.
  2. Not a single mention of the Salvation Army's "SUNBEAMS" I know there wasn't just me,where are all the others?
  3. Try and find someone on the forum that has things in common with you, when you find them, send a PM, and from there you can have a friend who you can talk too.I found a friend on here, it started with the autism thread, and from there we contact each other most days, and it's suprising just how many things you have in common.
  4. My son sent me flowers, but the best present was when he walked through the door and I thought he was 300 miles away.
  5. It's my 39th anniversary tomorrow, and 39 years ago tonight we sat just off Abbeydale Road, our wedding cake on the back seat of the car, eating halibut and chips. We should have dropped the cake off at the Big Tree, but the landlord said he wouldn't because there was a meeting of the mods and rockers, and he couldn't promise it would be there tomorrow,so nothing changes that much.
  6. I am so sorry to hear your bad news, this must be the thing people dread the most when selling, I have watched and read your postings, as we were selling about the same time, but I took heart when you said you'd sold, so you must be gutted. Things will change, don't get disheartened, we had to withdraw our house which is close by yours, but we will try again soon. I hope things change for you soon.
  7. Thank you for replying, my husband is disabled, so It was a difficult situation, but someone took him to buy a new battery, we got it home and that wouldn't work, hopefully we can get it sorted today.
  8. Could anyone in Norton Lees please help us start our car, itr's very urgent. Please PM me.Thank you
  9. Sometimes the wet fish shop on Woodseats sells duck eggs,
  10. The arcade you mention was a bit lower down from where Suggs is now, and it ran through to Union Street, at the top right was Barney Goodmans, a very high class gents outfitters,They made mens suits with massive shoulders, which made the men look real tough as they swaggered through town,at the other side of the Arcade was Suggs, and I think I also remember a card shop, standing at the top op the arcade was a blind man who I think sold matches.
  11. I remember many years ago the Cannon Hall was a great pub that had groups on, just as many pubs did in those days, I remember sitting with Joe Cocker who sometimes sang with Jonnie Hawk and the Falcons, great memories of that time.
  12. Yes all you say is true, they were great times, Thursday night for bopping at the Locarno, Friday was at the Locarno as well, but we pretended to be older and more grown up, if I remember right you had to be 21, then Saturday night was at the City hall, do you remember queing for tickets with your rollers in, and a scarf tied round the back like Bridgette Bardott, then Sunday back to the Locarno again for some more bopping, certainly didn't need Gyms in those days, I never remember any trouble back then we'd walk up the Moor and meet the others coming home from the City hall, but never any bother.
  13. Thanks to you all for your kind thoughts, we don't usually have that sort of thing, it's not a bad area, I do think perhaps it's because people (morons) see our house, and think we've got a lot of money, little do they know that both my husband and son are disabled, and I'm the sole carer, and we've struggled for years to own our house, which now has to be sold, due to my husband being so ill, hence I'm trying to get the garden nice. Thank you all once again.
  14. At Christmas we've always tried to make the outside of our house look attractive, and each year "the morons" came and broke the lights, so we had to say never no more as we can't afford them.I recently planted a row of little conifers,to brighten the garden up, and this wasn't easy,as I am sixty and not getting any younger, also I'm the sole carer for two disabled people so time and money was important, but I went out to do a little bit more in the garden, to find "the morons "have been again and pulled the little trees up and have taken some, so can anyone tell me why they do it? Our house is very nice, but we've worked all our life for it,and we built it, but we are two pensioners who can ill afford this, so can anyone tell me why? What do they get out of it?
  15. A man who lives on Derbyshire lane, stopped my husband yesterday and told him that there were to be 3 blocks of flats to be built on and around the quarry,Newsham road was also mentioned. Also although this is off topic,it seems that there are quite a few of us living around the quarry, can anyone tell me if they've had trouble with rats, one of my neighbours has been having loads of trouble, and she's had a man from the council once, but she's sent for him again as they haven't all been destroyed.
  16. Has anyone else heard anymore about the proposed buildings on the quarry,? A man who lives on Derbyshire Lane stopped my husband today to say that there are 3 blocks of flats to be built on or near the quarry, Newsham road was mentioned, an earlier post mentioned flats, can this be true?
  17. Poor service is bad enough, but why can't taxi drivers be a bit more pleasant? If they don't like the job then pack it up and get out of it, it embarrasses me and makes me feel uncomfortable to sit and not say a word, even if it's only hello, or worse they don't answer.I am not being racial here, and I must stress not all do this, but quite a few do. the Pakistani drivers make me feel very uncomfortable, until resently I always went shopping with my husband, but he is now very ill and can't drive anymore and I have to do most things for him, plus I also have a disabled son, I now have to take a taxi back home when I have done my shopping, but even if they bother to get out of the car at all, they will stand and watch me load all my bags in the boot rather than give me a hand, which would be quicker for all concerned plus I would give them a tip,and when I do get home the situation is in reverse, they stand and watch me going backwards and forwards with the bags, but don't offer to help, I have even considered home deliveries because of this, but I would rather choose my own food.
  18. Ange, you must get help, why not try the AS forum they will give you specialist advice.
