  1. Not sure why I am busted! ? As I said, I am one of the owners, I am not masquerading as a fan, merely replying to some of the comments in good faith. No doubt you will reach your own conclusions. Malcolm
  2. I am one of the owners of the business so thought it might be worth making a couple of comments. Kungfugerbil - I think you make a very good observation. After our extension we laid the bar & restaurant out differently and it took us a while to realise that it wasn't really working for customers (the best laid plans for mice & men & all that...) Both service and atmosphere suffered. Since the new year we have now moved the restaurant back upstairs so that it is on the same level as the bar, and the new rooms off Paradise Square are just available for functions ( they are great for functions/parties of all types by the way - and free to hire). We've had a lot of positive feedback from customers about the new layout, that it has improved ambience and service, so we will be sticking with it. Libertarian, thanks for your comments, I'm sorry you had a poor experience, we are not resting on our laurels and we have been aware that recently the food quality and timing has been patchy. We have recently hired a new General Manager - Mike, and also a new Head chef - Nick who along with the rest of the team are very committed to getting the W&P back to it's very best both as a bar and a restaurant. Malcolm
  3. Hi Ice hockey Joe, why not consider the Wig & Pen - we have done a few receptions with people coming into town fdrom the Botanical gardens - it works really well. Since our extension last year there are lots of possible areas for hire. http://www.wigandpensheffield.com
  4. I've been a pretty loyal fan of the Wig & Pen since it frist opened a few years ago & have eaten there twice with friends since it had its makeover & extension. Both times the food has been great and the restaurant has been busy, plus I am a scruffy bugger and have never had any issues with staff attitude towards me or friends. SMSM I would be very suprised if they weren't fully booked on a saturday night, if you had a problem with what they told you why didnt you ask?
  5. Have you tried the wig&pen since it re opened, more real ales than before & a lovely little dining room on Paradise Square
  6. The wigandpen re-opens this Friday after a couple of weeks closure, a bigger bar & restaurant area that extends into the Georgian Paradise Square with outside seating will be trading again this Friday . As one of the people involved I'm delighted to say it's looking great & we cant wait to show customers around.
  7. The building work has been going on for a couple of months now, they are planning to open the extension for 20th June. The dining room will be accessible directly from Paradise Square & there will be seating outside on the square. There are some visuals up in the bar which give some idea, it looks great.
  8. Carborundum, your cynicism is so tiresome & unfortunately all too often typical of our city. Sylvesters is locally owned & by all accounts will offer a different approach, not the usual west street bar formula.... at least go along before making your judgement
  9. But Platillos is independent, it's the same guys that own the wig & pen on campo lane
  10. I would try Platillos in the new leopold square, it will impress your visiting friends & the food is great, tapas based, with lots of veggie options. http://www.platillos.co.uk - or try Wig & Pen, again in the city centre, behind the cathedral. They do tapas but also great main course items.
  11. For me its a no brainer, has to be platillos.
  12. most certinaly it is good for lunch I eat there today. They are serving from 12noon till 10pm
  13. lunched there today & as usual had a great time, still at the top of its game as far as I can see.
  14. If the pub or hotel gives you permission & provides you with a wep key/password it is not illegal - if they dont choose to charge you for the service then good for them. I think you'll find that this kind of free wireless access will become increasingly common.
  15. Wig & Pen has had my vote for the last 2 years.
  16. Patrick I suggest you try the Wig Pen on Campo Lane. They have an upstairs room thats great for up to about 20 people & various other options. Realy nice staff, I had a party there back in May & it went really well.
  17. If you also want food then stick to the campo lane/trippet lane area - Wig & Pen, Boho (expensive), Cubana....this is a great emmerging area, free of the brands.
  18. Bragazzis is without doubt the best place for coffee and has the advantag of being 2 minutes from my door!!
