  1. Hello, Sorry to bother people but... I have no heating. Yes it was obviously caused by my condensing pipe freezing over. I believe I have cleared the blockage and now at least my boiler will relight (it wouldnt before). However it wont stay relit and the flame failure light comes on after two/ three minutes. It certainly heats water in the intervening time. Have I insufficiently cleared the blockage or is it a different problem? (it is a Potterton Performa 24 Eco HE)
  2. As the great Captain Barbossa said "I like to think of them as guidelines."
  3. Yup. Iplayer only have a 'stub' for it at the moment and it is currently marked as 'coming soon'. So at least it looks like it will be up. That's a good thing as I was a complete idiot and missed it despite intending to watch it. Sigh.
  4. Interesting! Yep its an invoice. Forget and Ignore. You may get a few nasty letters. Ignore them too. They'll go away as it is unenforceable but the letters will probably make you think that it is...
  5. Never heard of them I'm afraid. You might want to Google them. Just a suggestion. From the sounds of things (and without seeeing the 'ticket' you may wish to treat my advice with a pinch of salt) I believe this is an unenforceable notice and you should not even get in touch with them. As to my qualifications for saying that, I used to work in a closely related field so I know something about which I speak... However at this distance and from information supplied, it is difficult for me to be more precise.
  6. A query - is it this lot http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=495229 It sounds like them.
  7. This is the important question. Chances are it is an invoice attempting to look like a fine. In which case you do not have to pay it. Look at the many other threads about this on here.
  8. As per normal the Commonside end of Howard Road is causing issues. Police there and it looks like there was an accident. Road very slippery and probably requires a 4 by 4...
  9. Somewhat. As the OP pointed out she didnt live in Sheffield last winter so she may not have known about grit bins. It was a little... terse though.
  10. Grit does have an effect (even on compacted snow) provided there is sufficient traffic. And yesterdays snow hasnt had time to become properly compacted so it will still come up with a shovel.
  11. Priority routes are kept gritted, other roads are gritted on an 'as and when' basis. However as has been suggested there are yellow grit bins every couple of streets. These are for local people to use as required. Yes it is irritating but do you really want to pay the increased council tax that it would require to grit every road?
  12. As per previous threads Sheffield has more than seven hills, just to confuse things further!
  13. While I'm not as big a fan of the Milestone as some (I think it is ok but I'm not going to rave about it), on the occasion that I recently (I posted a thread to see if others had had the same experience - I wasnt the only one, though responses were mixed) had food in the Wig and Pen I'm afraid to say that: Unpretentious: Not really. Definitely trying to be something it wasnt. No Gimmicks: I'll give it that one. Value for money: Definitely not. Superior food: Definitely not. Bland small portion. Overly watery sauce with no means provided to eat it (though from what I could deduce that bit had some flavour). Good service: Any service would have been nice... Or at least that was what it felt like. I even had a hard time getting any attention to pay the bill and could easily have walked out wthout paying. Whether half an hour later anyone had noticed... I have eaten in many places and I would say that on this occasion it had the worst service of anywhere I have eaten this year. Of course that was a single visit. I could have been unlucky (That was why I started my thread. Turned out I wasnt alone).
  14. Wikipedia is your friend! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stocksbridge_Railway Hope that helps, and as it says it is still open for freight, though in slightly reduced form. To see it look on Google maps for the only railway in Stocksbridge and thats it (it joins the old Great Central mainline at Deepcar and so from there south the line was originally something different).
