  1. Well they’re might not be a strike as the new offers out to ballot. Fundamentally strikes will equal loss in takings which’ll lead to less in the pot...strikes rarely achieve anything
  2. Spoken like a driver ? That’d depend on how many actually strike
  3. Pmsl. Basic maths means it’s not less take home pay ..it’s less hours. Funnily enough my mate who works there as a driver thinks it’s reasonable offer. Personally I’d sack the lot of them for breach of contract if they went on strike. The fact they actually think they deserve 6% in the first place is hysterical What’s betting they have a strike on a tramlines day when it’ll inconvenience more folk
  4. Thats his stock answer if you disagree with a post of his ‘you must work for them’ He accused me of working for stagecoach when i challenged his repeated moans about the tram ?
  5. Well at least on this occasion you cant blame supertram for not communicating it.... they’ve had it on their website , press releases and notices on tram stops for a while (I’m sure you’ll manage to take them to task for something) Is it really the council’s responsiblity to advise /write to residents to advise of road closures? I hope youve asked your councillor why theyve not been proactive
  6. Well as they have built/are building in excess of 1;000 houses between Oughtibridge & Stocksbridge with the developers of these homes contributing little to infrastructure and transport in general it’s bound to have a knock on effect on public transport
  7. That’s the nature of turn up and travel systems. It’s not possible to lengthen the trams as they wouldn’t fit on the platforms The yellow tram should stop st university and then fast non stop to Hillsboro Park (as it goes several stops further) and the blue could serve all intermediate stops. Ultimately if a tram arrives and it’s busy it’s an individuals choice to board it
  8. This is the official site for all the homeless and outreach services in Sheffield who are all working together and who know who is homeless etc http://www.helpushelp.uk/
  9. Oh dear.. people are always blaming someone else instead of taking responsibility for their own mistakes. What kind of person doesn't check timetables especially if they are heading for or catching last services??? You wouldn't go for a train without checking> It's shown in the timetables and on the timetables on tram stops that there isn't a service. Basically you made an incorrect assumption, and couldn't be bothered to check the timetables and found out the hard way You clearly have internet access so wouldn't have to 'check through multiple timetables' you could just Google and use journey planner.
  10. Such bigoted opinions from Planner1 and LeMaquis. Wonder if either of them are local to the development and will be affected by it. For the umpteenth time i'll state clearly i have no (that's no N-O) objection to the building of houses.(even though none of them are desperately needed social housing) I acknowledge any development will create pressure on public infrastructure you state 'but we have to have them as the population is growing' So once again why can't improvements be included in the plans and made prior to the building to benefit all? Oh yes of course that would eat into the huge profits that these developers are going to make Yes I know its money and according to Planner1 not much of a delay...well whats 'not much' to one person is a lot to another... This city gets more gridlocked and traffic tail backed by the day.. even our own council has admitted that the new retail development in the city centre needs to be accessible to the public. is it wrong to expect foresight rather than look back after with hindsight? Prevention is always better than a cure.
  11. Guess I'm a NIMBY too then ... despite stating in numerous posts on here that I have no objection whatsoever to the actual houses being built. What I do object to is the total lack of investment in any infrastructure improvements 200 odd cars a day? They are building over 300 houses so you can bet your last pound almost every house will have at least one car and others multiple. Along with the further proposed housing developments at Deepcar & Stocksbridge the traffic will continue to get worse. Surely prevention is better than cure What I do object to is being screwed over by private developers.. they aren't building new houses out of kindness, they aren't building much needed social housing but a development which they stand to make a great big fat wedge of cash out of and existing residents can just suffer the consequences as they line their pockets and to hell with them
  12. Planner1 what you seem to fail to comprehend or even respect that a lot of existing residents, myself included, don't give a damn out the 'statistics ' when it is them who are already experiencing congestion and traffic jams and know what the reality will be based on their current experiences And as for one of your earlier posts about working flexi time.. I DO work flexi time but still get caught up in traffic as I like to get to work by 8.30, this meaning I can have a work/life balance. I already leave 10 mins a day earlier than I did a year ago as traffic means the link bus I used to catch no longer connects with the tram it should. That for all your bluster, spin, statistics and BS is the reality of someone who is already living here prior to this being built.
  13. You're quite correct just because it doesn't say what I want doesn't mean it hasn't been done correctly. Neither does it mean it's right- what goverment/planners may perceive as insignificant disruption is actually different to those who have to endure it day by day. Funnily enough just had an e mail off my MP who agrees that the A6102 is unsustainable now and even in the longer term and just for clarity purpose I have no objection against house building on site just that the rest of us shouldn't have to suffer the fall out. ---------- Post added 12-09-2016 at 15:18 ---------- acceptable by who? not me! So when the link bus is either whizzing past full or caught in more traffic missing it's intended tram link and a further 10-15-20 mins are added onto my journey per day thats acceptable??
  14. Or the IKEA ---------- Post added 10-09-2016 at 15:18 ----------
  15. You clearly haven't read my posts as I have repeatedly said I use public transport Is sitting In my car (I don't own one) more important than a child's school place ? Well being as you ask .. That's my point it's the overall impact on everything from this scheme therefore all issues should be addressed and financed by the developers who stand to make money at the expense of current residents
  16. The/My problem is... the planners not giving a damn. There is already significant congestion..and while you/the assessments may not think 100 per hour won't make a difference it's not you/them who have to live with it. There's already a traffic problem that needs sorting, but hey lets chuck some more vehicles into the mix rather than take a sensible approach and see what we can do to alleviate the current problem before allowing the properties to be built. NO..lets do nothing..lets just let the issue grow worse slowly over time/years until we realize actually we need to sort this and then spend several more years trying to work out how to sort it The only thing they did do was drop plans for a convenience store at the site cos the few (over priced cos they have a monopoly) village shops complained. TBH it's not even worth debating..they've decided and to hell with the residents and knock on effects..keep screwing them for the council tax..we don't give a damn it takes 15/20 mins to travel a mile to catch the 'green' transport Supertram..and you won't connect with the timetabled service because you'll be stuck in traffic, as now, so allow another 10 mins..., we don't give a damn that when you want a drs appointment you'll have to wait more than a week as you do currently.. (how on earth the surgery can say it has spare capacity when you have to wait 5/7 days to see a GP is beyond me)..just all trot off to A&E and clog that up instead. Money does indeed talk
  17. The developers are paying £5 million to the council it's in the agreement. Estimated 100 cars... So a guess.. You and the planners may think that's not going to make much difference but they and you should come and try the journey at peak times for a month ! I agree it has to go somewhere and I don't object to them being built if they ensure proper consideration , improvements to the area facilities and infrastructure
  18. What money? How's about the £5 million the developers are paying? With respect as a local resident who uses public transport daily I am one of people who this will impact on, one of the people who is already experiencing the long traffic delays that already exist pre this development going ahead, one of the people who will have to suffer the consequences and leave even earlier for work because as I have said already and some of your answers demonstrate the planners don't give a damn about existing residents . And as an aside let's not forget there are further plans for more housing developments at Deepcar and Stocksbridge!!!
  19. The link buses just get snarled up in the endless queues of traffic from Stockarth Lane all the way past the park and ride to Penistone Road and as a result miss the tram connection. People won't use public transport if it's neither reliable or quick! These 300 houses are being built before the bus enters oughtibridge en route to the park and ride, they are frequency virtually full before Oughtibridge so it'll be interesting, and frustrating , to see how many will whizz past full! They should have included a bus lane from middle wood ambulance station to the park and ride as their is sufficient grass verges and lay by's to facilitate this. Fact is the planners don't give a damn for current residents or commuters ---------- Post added 08-09-2016 at 21:16 ---------- The mass transit plans I've heard about especially around the uni & netherthorpe road are hysterical!! Mass transit shouldn't be being thought about it should be a priority and an important measure in these development plans .. Prevention is better than cure. No one from the planning dept or the council had the courtesy to contact me to discuss or ask for further details re my concerns when I objected to this development simply cos they don't give a damn and it's to hell with current residents
  20. Er did i say that ? No I actually welcome the building of the new houses and the development of the site however there has to be proper infrastructure and roads included in the plan. The A6102 is a busy road single file in either direction. Roads may be busy everywhere however that doesn't mean we should just suck it up! Proper planning, new connecting roads, bus lanes that means public transport is viable and will connect with what it's supposed to and run to time rather than be stuck in traffic are all things to be considered. Theres proposals for an addtional 1,000 houses at Stocksbridge/Deepcar too in pipeline Interestingly the developers say Oughtibridge surgery has capacity to handle patients from 300 new houses however when i called last week there were no bookable appointments for over a week and a half..then people got to A&E and clog that up .. according to Yorkshire Water the sewerage plant doesn't have sufficient capacity either! Build them but build sufficient infrastructure to cope
  21. What % would another 200 cars make??? The road is already solid, crawling or often stationary traffic from just past stockarth lane all the way to penistone road in the morning peak The link buses get caught up in this and therefore fail to connect with trams The only 'improvement ' proposed by the developers is changes to the access road to the site and 2 bus shelters! There is enough grass verge and lay bys just past the ambulance station until the park and ride at middle wood and the developers should be forced to fund a bus lane. And yes I've already lodged an objection with the council, my mp and the parish council
  22. Well the audacity of it... here's a great idea.... LEAVE it, don't clean up and when the tram stops etc look a <Removed> hole - then you'll really have something to moan about
  23. TBF the work they are doing is in different sections this time! (so not really a farce as they aren't replacing the track they replaced last year- that WOULD be a farce!) Mistakes? the article says there's a meeting next week for anyone interested so you could go and put your concerns across. And it WAS on their website & SYPTE's last year when the work was going on that it was being done over several years. The website announced this this week and there was an article in this weeks Star about it too
  24. Ok here's one to set all the the moaners off again... the following is taken from http://www.supertram.com/ MULTI-MILLION pound investment work to improve Sheffield’s tram system is to resume next month. The first phase of this year's essential engineering work to replace worn out sections of rail will take place between Hillsborough and Infirmary Road from 28 March 2015 and is expected to take around six weeks. During the work – which is essential to protect the long-term future of the tram network - a revised timetable will be in place on the Yellow and Blue Supertram routes. Dedicated replacement bus services operating as the Y5 and B5 will replace trams in the affected area, serving bus stops closest to the usual trams stops. Bus replacement information, including route maps and details of bus stops, will be available online at this website, at travelsouthyorkshire.com and via social media, leaflets and posters from mid-February. Information will be displayed at tram stops during the works. Supertram tickets can be purchased and existing tickets used on board replacement bus services. Staff will be at key stops at peak times to help customers with information and advice. Those affected by the planned engineering work are invited to attend a drop-in event about the works on Wednesday 25 February at Arundel Gate Interchange from 3-8pm. Supertram is used by around 15 million people each year. Over 22km of track is being replaced in total. Work carried out on the network over the past two years has already seen the replacement of around 10km of track. The new rail will improve passenger comfort and reduce noise in areas where the track is currently worn. The improvements between Hillsborough and Infirmary Road form the first of four phases of scheduled engineering work that will take place this year. Further sections of Supertram track will be replaced in stages, planned between: - Park Square and Castle Square from 11 May until 3 June - Castle Square and Cathedral from 4 June until 28 June - City Road and Gleadless Townend from 29 June until 28 August One side of the road will be closed when work takes place on the roadway. Traffic will pass on the other side under traffic management. Some road junctions may need to close completely. Work will take place at weekends wherever possible when this is the case and local information will be made available in advance.
