This is in regards to a massive mouse rescue that is currently underway. People from all around the country including yorkshire/Derbyshire area are helping to transport or even adopt some of these poor mice. Even if you don't have transport, someone could help get the mice to you ar you could donate a cage etc.
Here are the details copied from a facebook group just set up:
Environmental Health are in the process of removing hundreds of fancy mice from a hoarder in Wales. The situation is totally out of control with large groups of mixed sexed mice in tiny cages, buckets, bins, and storage containers. 100 mice have already been removed from the situation and are currently located at nearby rescue (Freshfields) who were starving hungry, very underweight, and desperate for water. Since rescue many of the females have aborted litters and eaten new ones overnight A rough estimate of 900mice (including many loose in the house) but not including imminent births has been made; obviously not all of these will be able to be saved, but we’re hoping for as many saved lives as possible. Those who cannot be saved will be euthanized by Environmental Health who due to their dealings with wild mice and rats are not likely to be ethical in their methods.
Help of any sort is urgently needed, be it fostering, donation of toys/ food/ substrate/ bedding/ cages, help with transport from Wales to fosterers/ rescues, or money to the fund set up for this rescue operation. In regards to foserting the ones that will be hard to place, as always, will be the current males, and the young when born. Involvement of petshops, breeders and rescues who cull adults or young males are not wanted as if that were to happen they may as well be put to sleep now as that won't be achieving anything. Ideally foster carers should take this into consideration and that if the mice have little/no interest then they will be looking at long term fostering (ie them staying for life).
The rescue is being co-ordinated by Emma of FurryFriends animal rescue located near Croydon, Surrey: 020 8407 1080/ Adrs@aol.com
A volunteer from Freshfields is going in to asses the situation on Monday (27th October) and it is intended to then move large numbers of mice down to FurryFriends rescue in Surrey the following weekend
The initial word was put out by emma from furryfriends on this thread where there is alot of communication going on between people about co ordinating transport etc so if you are interested in helping it could be worth reading
