  1. If it was me I'd only complain if I was going to change GP anyway. However, perhaps a letter to the practice manager explaining your point of view in a non confrontational manner might be a way of resolving the situation. Perhaps the receptionist had misrepresented you in some way, or perhaps the Dr was having a bad day. If you did follow this route I would also copy it to the PALS (Patient Advice Liason Service) Manager at Sheffield PCT based at Don Valley House, Saville Street East to ensure that the matter wasn't just swept under the carpet.

At the end of the day we pay our NI contributions and in effect are paying the Dr's wages so a bit of courtesy wouldn't be amiss from them. I suspect the receptionist put the boot in for you!

  2. I heard that it's the allotments liason officer at the council who is supposed to encourage allotment owners to enter for the horticultural tent, but I also heard he does nothing about it. (This is idle gossip, treat it as such!

I think the person you may be referring to is Jon Bauer. I did speak to him at the event and to be honest he didn't seem to know anything about the allotment societies which were present so it doesn't surprise me. Perhaps this needs people power rather than depending on local officials!

  3. craigmason, for your information the Sheffield Horticultural show is not organised by Sheffield City Council its organised by me - and in order to stage something on the same scale as Harrogate we would need to raise a lot more money than we currently do (also involved with Harrogate)

Hi Kim, didn't realise you'd organised it. I think you did a great job. As mentioned on another of my posts just wonder whether this could be advertised a bit more next time to get more input. We have an allotment at Woodhouse Mill and there's been an increased take up this year and I'm sure people there would have been interested. Perhaps next year via Sheffield Forum we could get posters put up at sites such as allotments to increase interest and perhaps get more contributions towards the show. Just an idea. me and my hubby would be willing to help.

  4. I agree totally, however where would the money come from? Shows like Harrogate cost thousands and thousands of pounds to put on.....

This would be great. We went to Sheffield Fayre last weekend and I wonder if the horticultural section could be enlarged. Advertisement for this event didn't seem to happen much beforehand - perhaps this is something that could be thought about.

  5. i think Camilla should attend the service, it's not as though Diana was important when she died.

If she wasn't important to the people of this country then how come they had the turn out that they did? She was out future King's mother so to say she's not important is in my view quite an offensive remark to make. :loopy:

  6. Have you met her?

    Why have you?

Don't get me wrong I'm not a royalist but do you think that she has got the people skills that the Queen and in her lifetime the Queen Mother have/had to be the future Queen of our country - can you see her staying in this country like the Queen Mum did if we were to go to war instead of getting on the first plane available!

  7. The Prince of Wales wife has decided not to attend the remembrance service of the Princess of Wales, as she does not want to disrupt it.

This is five days before the occasion.

I think the woman has caused enough disruption in her life.

If it were not for her, non of the trouble to the establishment over the last 30some years would have occurred.

Completely agree, for her to attend would have been spitting on Diana's grave. Can't stand the woman and she's not good enough to be our country's sovereign's wife.

  8. I think Christa's pretty scary looking. Saw her the other night and I'm not sure if they had the lighting different or what, but you could see just how much make-up she was caked in. She looks like someone desparately trying to look younger than she is. Mind you, I suppose you can't blame her - how many news teams are made up of an old man and a very young woman? How many times do you see it the other way around?

Personally I can't stand her. She once did a function at OH's workplace and she's a right snob! Think she ought to have been binned a long time ago - I watch Calendar just to avoid having to watch her.

  9. I do sympathise with staff at hospitals who work shifts and yes its not a nice area at night to have to get home from. However, the hosoitals been there (i think) for 100 years and people have managed until now even in days when cars weren't readily available. I also work at the hospital admittedly I'm a daytime office worker but choose to leave my car at home and travel from Woodhouse on the bus. Its a lot cheaper, not much slower than taking the car.

The hospital does provide taxis for people who have difficulties in getting to the hospital (even from places outside of Sheffield) - I know cos the secretaries have to book them. If I were you I'd have a word with the Consultant in charge of your child's care and see what can be arranged.

I can't understand what the winging is all about - its not just a hospital car parking problem. Even if another six car parks were built there'd still be people moaning cos they can't get a space.

  10. Parking anywhere in Sheffield is a nightmare. Surely if you're child is disabled aren't you entitled to a disabled badge which, as far as I know, allows badge holders to park on double yellow lines.

For anyone who's able bodied every one knows that its almost impossible to park around that area so why put yourself in the position of driving, round and round - probably be quicker to get the bus anyway!

  11. Hi, I'm buying a kitchen from Purdy's at Woodhouse Mill they deal with a lot of kitchen unit manufacturers. Altogether for the kitchen units, appliances and fitting its costing about £3,500. Think the quote you've been given is very high and I'd suggest having a look around. I've been told that Arnold Laver are also good suppliers/fitters of kitchens.

  12. If you havn't got the bottle to tell the person you reported that it was you,you should keep your mouth shut,I dont agree with "grassing" except in cases where children are maltreated, but if I were going to report someone for that ,I can assure you they would know who reported them.Mind you a good kicking tends to work better than any slapped wrist from social services

Sorry Rotherhamer but this is out of order. For all you know it could be someone who's very violent who's doing the maltreating and if so I personally wouldn't want my identity giving and yes I do have bottle! Sorry but "a good kicking" is what this country and other countries needs to get away from and no I'm not a dogooder.

I think its disgusting that SS have all but named Eric and all this does it put other people off reporting incidents of suspected maltreatment.

  13. The Sharp Cuts Live @ The Blue Room, Woodseats - December 17th 2007.....perfect for a works do - book a table now! Tix are selling fast...we may have to do an extra night!

    Ask me at work today.

Thanks for that info Ry. Its for my hubbies works do and they're needing a room to themselves. Sounds a great night though - might ask the girls next week if they might want to go there for our night out!

  14. It is easy to criticise the Nhs, but recently i have had treatment at both the Hallamshire hospital and Calow Chesterfield. lovely staff and prompt attention ,plus my wifes regular blood checks at Calow no more than 5mins most of the time i wait in the car.

I have a relative in Australia near Brisbane very hot in summer and many parts of OZ is a problem with flies, give me our countryside every time.

It is easy to criticise the NHS but I work for them and see things that are going on at the moment.

Agree about the countryside but from what I hear the Health Service in Oz is far superior than ours.

  15. Baldwins Omega?

    Vodka Revolution?

Various hotels in the city do functions at Xmas.....

it depends what you want to spend, if you want a meal or just a disco???.....

Thanks for that Simon - I realise that hotels etc do functions but am having problems finding anywhere that's not booked up! Just wondered whether anyone on here knew if there's a venue where bookings are still being taken.
