  1. i effectively did this, by paying £30 more than my regular monthly payment , and i didn't attend a court hearing because i had made this payment , but i still have been told that a warrant had been issued
  2. don't know what to do about literally £000's arrears in council tax, 20% of which is charges accrued for non payment i'm on a low income though earn too much to claim any benefit, have been threatened with an arrest warrant , even though i made a payment last month to try to show some willingness to pay something (Even though it's left me short) i can't possibly afford to pay the arrears, and i won't be able to earn anything or pay rent if i'm in jail, i'm not sure what on earth i'm supposed to do
  3. just come home from the most awful debacle of a pub quiz at the Rising Sun on Fulwood Road, S10. lately it's either someone over explaining everything with unnecessary blurb , though with a really clear voice, or like tonight a dreadful accent (sorry no offence but doesn't work for a quiz) and long long gaps between questions meaning it finished over half an hour later than usual . People might not have work the next day, but it just makes for a tedious night!
  4. it seems the morons who run places like this (or the Common Room ) are too bothered about people wearing caps in their establishment, and can't deal with 'genuine' troublemakers
  5. has anyone used Graysons on Ulverston Road (off Woodseats Road ) S8 ? honest good reports (not from the staff!) or honest horror stories (justified) only. thanks!
  6. has anyone used 'Car Parts Sheffield' at the bottom of Woodseats Road (apparently .. from the website) .. phoned them yesterday and they were really offhand. making out there was a problem with the phone connection (it was landline to landline) . the young lad (?) phoned me back and i just got the chance to repeat my question .. and all he said was 'yes i heard that bit ' and cut me off! i emailed them politely, asking for a response, but got nothing . just wondered if anyone else had used these people and if they're known for being idiots! thanks
  7. from memory i think there's a v good one called Dora's based in Sheffield S8 and a Jean Keen .. i'm sure they would go out to their clients anywhere in the city
  8. i just realised this thread is nearly 10 years old. i think the lyrics are more like poetry, i think it'd be difficult to set them to music , though i would love to get together with someone who writes lyrics with maybe more simple structure but NOT simple substance!! and write music with them. 'Peterkins2' just reply to this topic or pm me if you like
  9. i see it All the time, especially young drivers who must have passed their tests fairly recently. (though some older ones too) mostly turning right at busy crossroads or left at traffic lights where it is NOT a filter i.e. you don't know they are turning until they do
  10. does anyone get taught to indicate these days ? i frequently see young drivers failing to do so , and have even seen instructors not bothering. when i learnt to drive i was told i was learning to drive.. not just to pass my test. seems like instructors and pupils couldn't care less anymore .
  11. always enjoy a pub quiz. especially when they're not just the standard 'Redtooth' questions, but i wish the punters were a bit more considerate... they put their coats and/or bags on seats (not counting saving them for their mates) , and seem reluctant to move them when the place is busy and space is at a premium for sitting down. Then there are the 2s or 3s who sit in a space big enough for 8 or 9 but won't budge to accommodate others who have as much right to sit somewhere as they do . constructive comments/ empathy welcome.. no trolls or devil's advocates! thanx
  12. thanks for your comments but i was hoping someone was going to reply to me specifically, what you have put is basically off topic especially about appearing in court. useful info but u weren't answering what i was asking .
  13. not been on SF for a while and not sure whether i should've started a new thread. but i foolishly let in a council enforcement agent a few months ago . having already told him i was reluctant to let him come in to my flat. he just wanted to 'do some paperwork' and i fell for it .. one thing under the subsequent 'controlled goods order' is my car, which having researched it, seems like this is wrong, because i use the car in the course of my job and not to and from one place of work . the car is worth less than £1350 . anyone been in similar situation ?
  14. @geared. possibly. i feel extremely ripped off,, not least from what seems to be a very minimal service for a full service fee. @El Cid... yes i should get a pre MOT in future too.
  15. that's a bit of a simplistic response, no offence... but there were issues unrelated to a service that prevented it passing the MOT first time
  16. i just took 'advantage' of Halfords £164 car servicing and MOT , i thought this involved a full service and although a lot of advice was printed, and checks done, i don't have much faith that a lot of work was actually carried out ie the bare minimum that i would possibly have had in a partial service elsewhere. and if i'd known there was a partial re test fee (having Never paid one before in many years of driving) i wouldnt have committed myself to staying there. i would have saved the fee had i had the necessary MOT failure work done there, but i saved about £130 having it done elsewhere interesting how Halfords don't give out a customer satisfaction/feedback form.. they just don't want to know do they.. so if anyone knows a good reliable independent garage and a reasonable MOT tester with no retest fee... then use them.
  17. i find the majority of drivers totally ignorant and expect someone else to give way for them when there are parked cars on both sides. i give way more than my fair share, to avoid a collision. i always give way to drivers coming uphill whethr the cars are on my side or not. as i would expect another driver to do for me, to prevent me having to change to 1st gear and pick up speed and use alot more fuel.
  18. that's a very simplistic thing to say, i already said that i economise, i don't smoke, i drink very little, but i can't live life like a hermit and don't think anyone should be playing god and saying how i should live when i'm not exactly being extravagant. what do you think i should do? as for getting email alerts from SF... could you be helpful enough to say Exactly HOW to get these, not just to say that you 'can' get them. thanks
  19. thanks for all your suggestions... i don't know how up to date you are about benefits.. or if it's just that the council are being deliberately obstructive and not helping me claim what i'm entitled to as for not going out... i'm sorry, i can't just sit in my flat 24/7 it is no good for my mental health! and my electric bill! it's certainly been higher in the last few weeks because i already have spent a lot more time at home with not working My car is the cheapest possible, and i need it for work when i am working due to what i do. i wish SF would have email alerts so i could know ppl have replied !
  20. i have been claiming while not working (HB), trouble is they messed up a previous claim and overpaid me some benefit.. well they overpaid it into my rent account (council tenant) . so i didn't see the money. but they now want ME to pay that money back and i'm not now sure if i can genuinely claim benefit for when i was off work with the illness as for extending it for those 4 weeks.. none of them will ever admit they can do this.. i don't know how to get someone to truthfully tell me what i'm entitled to (i don't mean you lot on here, whose help is appreciated.... apart from 'granny' telling me to get a loan/overdraft etc. sorry i'm already in severe debt and can't go down that route . not that you knew, but it's a pretty simplistic 'suggestion' )
  21. most co's help and it shouldn't cause any major problems? this is a theoretical happy situation to be in which unfortunately i am not as for friends and relatives, no, i am asking about official help that i could be entitled to. sometimes there is help out there, but everyone (e.g council/govt depts) reluctant to say what it is, then somehow you hear that there was something... if only you knew.
  22. there is no way my company will be able to loan or advance me anything due to the nature of them and my job/contract (no, nothing dodgy !!) i just looked at a 'turn to us' website searching for charitable funding, but none of them remotely matches my situation though i'm still wading thru the 600+ options
  23. thanks for your replies.. yes they said Crisis Loans weren't being done anymore, and when i contacted the council's supposed local assistance scheme i was told that because i won't be on benefit anymore once i go back to work, they won't be able to work so yes i was totally up against a brick wall as for the CAB, i can't see how .... when push comes to shove... they'll be able to suggest anything different, if and when i can actually get an appointment with anyone which might not be for a week or 2 !! thanks for the grants search link though, but i'm sure they'll find a way to exclude me or it'll take til the end of the month for a decision!
  24. i've been claiming Statutory Sick Pay (SSP ) for 5/6 weeks during and after being in hospital , am finally going back to work but won't get paid til the 30th May . have just received a very minimal sum of SSP which i can't afford to live on, have managed to postpone my rent payments though will probably be in arrears. in the meantime, i have direct debits, shopping, a bit of going out, and when i'm in my flat more, it's costing me more in electricity i tried to apply for what used to be a 'crisis loan' but because i won't be claiming any benefit because i'll be back at work, i can't get anything Before anyone tells me to cut back and be economical, i don't smoke, i drive an economical car which i need for work, i spend less than £10 on my mobile phone per month, and i drink very little when i go out so now i've got that out of the way, does anyone know any way of getting any money to tide me over for the next 4 weeks? even a Credit Union is , i've found, extremely hard to apply for a loan with ..
  25. thanks for your replies guys, indeed they are trying to create trouble where none should exist anyway, and the point about the non cap wearing trouble makers was mine too... but the pub managers are too shallow to think about that. as for the ideas of non hat wearing being about manners, it's 2014, not a bygone age, and manners can be shown in many other ways i wear my hat for a specific reason, because of the size And shape of my head which doesn't apply to the vast majority of the public . it's not 'just' because i'm bald. I rarely wear a Baseball cap as such, and am certainly not 'chavvy' not that people on here were trying to imply that I personally am
