  1.

Here's a thought... why do we have to blame anyone?

Why can't we just act like grown ups and accept that the referee is only human and like the rest of us he can make mistakes?

Perhaps some of us have never been to a football match and sung the immortal words that "tha dunt know what tha doing " or "the referee's a basket "

    I have have you;)

  2. I don't see what all the fuss is about. FF got sent off and there's no going back. You've got strength in depth so you'll be ok.

If anything it's FF who's got to learn from this because he's becoming his own worst enemy. No point blaming the ref, he's got to take responsibility and look at himself.

So if we do not blame the Ref for sending of an innocent player who fell just two yards from him ,who do we blame .

Dawson's own words.....I got away with that one! Would love to hear the refs comment.

Perhaps Keith Hacket or Uriah Rennie will enlighten us./

  3. The same thing happened to the Sheffield Cutlery Industry. Our highly qualified tradesmen put out of work by China !

Sheffields steel industries suffered due to cheap steel and cutlery coming in from abroad.

Our own Davy United helped in this by setting up and building some of those over seas plants [although others from other Countries would have if not us].

Viners a Sheffield trademark company stamped cheap cutlery from abroad with the Sheffield name ,this is sold in all the top shops tricking people into thinking that they are buying quality when in fact the product is crap.

Did or does the Government cause a stink about this underhand practice ,well no they do not which raises the point its not what you know but who you know or what club you belong to.

As a result of the above practices many of Sheffield's young are left on the scrap heap due to the traditional jobs that their family's have been engaged in for hundreds of years no longer available . these kids are then referred to as Chavs or feckless by the so called middle classes the same people that where responsible for their down fall in the first place.

So the shelf stackers of today are the skilled tradesmen and women of bygone Sheffield who would serve seven years apprenticeships to earn the skills req.

Ironically the shops and super markets are now offering apprentice ships in SHELF STACKING or to put it in perspective cheap labour a system once again inflicted on the poorer and uneducated sections of our society who can now see no way out from the predicament that has become their lot.

  4. Haven't you read this thread? It was posted 24 hours ago by someone else so the feat of memory wasn't mine. :)

As a fellow Wednesdayite:suspect: I am just glad that my feat of of memory tells me that F.F. was tripped by Dawson and wrongly sent off nothing to do with whatever happened at Wolves or Watford .

  5. What a load of tosh .... Up to the Preston game ... Had anyone commented on FF being a diver whilst in a Wednesday shirt ..?

Remind me who is top scorer this season..?

Remind me who is arguably one of the players of the season...?

His first booking at Preston was questionable and the sending off last night was roundly critised by all & sundry including Michael Dawson

I'm surprised you have the opinion you do....you must see a different FF to the one I watch ....

    same here:mad:

  6. Good post. There's no point in trying to defend the indefensible. Sorry to say but his first instinct is to cheat. It's obviously ingrained and I can't see the leopard changing its spots. Such a shame.

Don't talk daft ,did big Dave cheat when he was wrestled to the floor in the cup game with Shrewsbury when all he had to do was side foot the ball into the net ? no he did not and neither did F.F las night .

Its the refs on both occasions that got it disastrously wrong and cost the Owls .

On channel 5 just now every pundit and commentator has said it the Ref cheated the player. Even Dawson says he tripped F.F and stated that the yellow should be rescinded .

Only on here are experts saying otherwise .

  7. yes remember the pond quite well -used to go there looking for newts and frogs at dinnertime from Prince Edwards school---bit of a wooded area around pond

there was a spoil heap which seemed quite big to us at that time

Also went to one of the houses which are still there and look at the pig they had in a outbuilding/garage----I think the lads name was Vinny Pye-that would be about1954 ish

would like to see if any maps of the area exist

I knew Vincent very well he lived in the houses below the fire station and kept pet rats under the floor boards.

  8. Wednesday are not feeling any pressure...... we went to Hull in a confident mood.

Hull didn't scare us (though they scared me before the game :( ) and we played some good stuff at times.

We were every bit as good as them for the most part, but not as dangerous up front for once, against an excellent defence.

Any goal early on would have made the game an end to end cracker I reckon.

As for Fozzie? Yes, he does try to win free kicks a lot. Sometimes he dives, sometimes he's knocked over with a feather.

He fell over a few feathers tonight, but I didn't see him dive once.

Dawson walloped him........end of story. Dawson knew it, and our players begged the Ref to speak to the Linesman, but the Ref was adamant.

It would probably have ended up 0-0 if Fozzie had stayed on, so it's no good crying over spilt milk.

We will miss him for the next game(s) though, and that's wrong.

Something needs to be done about it, but while ever Fozzie dives and cons, the Refs will always make these iffy decisions.

CC HAS to give FF a real stiff talking to, so that he can expel this 'diver' reputation that he's got. It's a real shame 'cos Fozzie a really effective player.

He did not dive tonight he was tripped by Dawson the ref cheated.

  9. True, but you forget the extent of political correctness in the 70s and the 80s.

It really was heresy to speak out in the era of 'multicullturism.'

Just to say the wrong thing (ie the simple truth,) could cost you your job, and make you unemployable. At the very least you would be sent on a humiliating 'racial awareness' course. You and your opinions would be totally isolated.

And nothing would change except your career prospects.

The McCarthy witch hunts in the USA were nothing compared to this. If you want to blame someone, blame the government (Labour mostly) for passing the laws and creating the culture which made it almost impossible to speak out.

speaking the truth in todays society gets you nowhere

  10. A report this week has stated that the 7% that attend private and public schools end up with 70% of the top jobs in Government, the Arts,The Theatre, and the Army.

The cabinet at Westminster is dominated by public and private educated schoolboys.

The survey also found that the parents of these top people who inherit the top jobs were themselves from privileged backgrounds.

Apparently the Theatre also has a high instance of actors who have been privately educated and the survey found that the 93%of us who have not had the silver spoon treatment find it much harder to enter into the privileged professions.

We as a Nation look down on certain systems in other Countries as being oppressive or corrupt but is ours any different when looked at closely .

  11. Tomorrow Barnsley market will have its tat day on the outside section it will be packed just as the old Castle Market was on Mondays when the outside section did the same.

The Council decided that it did not want those type of traders outside its flagship building and are now reaping the reward.

A market needs this type of diversity to bring in the customers ,all the surrounding Towns have tat days.

, Sheffield has its head up its Aristotle.
