  1. Might be an evil, despotic, misogynistic, extremist, bigoted country....but they buy weapons from us and sell us oil so they must be OK. And when one of their evil unelected leaders dies our Royal family fawn all over them and flags are flown at half mast, whilst our PM (of all parties) cream themselves to suck up to the successor.

One of their evil unelected leaders half owns our local footy club.

  2. Is this the most soul destroying ,up the wall crawling , hair ripping out program ever to be shown on T.V.

The four mutton dressed as Lamb panelists cackle and gaggle through every mind numbing event that can be discussed any where on Earth.

Especially Janet Street Porter who some how thinks that she is a cut above every other human being on the Planet .

The coy looks ,the skirt hitches, combined with the eye fluttering embarrassment when the the latest male heart throb sticks himself in their midst makes me throw the cat at the telly .

  3. Big difference this season has not only been the starting eleven, but the quality on the bench, all Saturdays subs were game changers, plus having a manager capable of changing things is a bonus, yes first half was poor Saturday, but I had every confidence we would come out a better side and always expected the victory, which turned out to be easy.

The main actor was missing on Saturday:)

  4. What a pub it was in the mid sixties.

    With

Eric and Irene behind the bar it was the place to be and be seen for a certain section of Sheffields dirty stop outs.

The place was that packed on Thurs (Lacarno night) Friday and Saturday that the crowd actually spread upstairs towards the landlords living room.

No Juke box all you did was climb the stairs and put Sinatra or Nat King Cole on Eric's radiogram.

The Oak was a Mankers paradise as the packed bar rooms made it possible to snuggle up close to your latest Lacarno love from the week before and many of todays older folk first got to close quarters in Oaks once your in your in environment.

The Oak was full of chancers, gangsters and Molls and we all loved it .

  5. Attercliffe dog training at St Christopher's on Bellhouse Road .7PM Mondays.

Our Ted learnt all that he knows( to date that is.) They are really good .See thread designer dogs and mongrel owners.

    £1.50 per session after joining.

  6. Born in Barnsley educated at Ecclesfield grammer, a proper South Yorkshire man.

This tribute should be in Sheffield Discussions so as all can see it Barry is a legend in these parts.

  7. Hillsbro holds the record for a third division attendance of 49,309 fans I forget the date although I was there.

To add to that the record league attendance was 65,384 set in Jan 1952.

Both these were dwarfed by the 72,841 fans that attended the 1934 season cup clash with Manchester City.

So over the years the capacity of the ground has been needed and has been reached in recent seasons .

  8. In the early sixties at the Lacarno on London Road the fashion was for the lasses to wear their cardigans back to front and the lads to turn their V necks around to make a crew neck .

    Did you.?

Part of Sheffield fashion history along with hoola hoop skirts and drainpipes.

My mrs ses that lads used to undo the cardi buttons while sat behind the lasses ont bus.

  9. Are we talking about during our lifetime supporting SWFC?

If so, No.1 Big Ron for the reason you give and No.2 Tricky Trev also for the reasons you give.

Having said that, Warnock runs them both close purely for the entertainment he's provided us with! Even when we were getting beat there was still the consolation of having a sing-along with our mate Neil.

Edit: Just spotted the 'S. Yorks' in the thread title. Wilson did at Barnsley what had never been done before and will probably never be done again.

I started watching when Eric Taylor was manager, probably the best manager who never kicked a ball in history.

  10. It seems as though this section has died over the last week mainly due to a couple of posters who can't resist posting crap about other teams or their supporters.

So maybe a different topic might liven things up a bit .As per the title shall we say who are the top six in your opinion.

I will kick of with mine .

No one, Ron Atkinson (actually won summat)

No two, Harry Catterick,(runner up to Spurs with the finest Wed team ever)

No three, Trever Francis,( nearly won everything)

No four , John Harris,( Just an all round good manager)

No five,Jack Charlton [the most fun time ever at Hillsbro)

No six , Niel Warnock,( Horrible man but he did make people sit up and take notice of Sheffield football).

No other South Yorks manager to match them (in my opinion ) but Danny Wilson is up there with his record at Barnsley.

    Any takers.

  11. Call me whatever you like love, it's all good.

And of course I worry about you. If you're forced to listen to something for three hours a day so that you can hear the traffic news, and the best thing that happens to you is that eventually you get to hear Popmaster, then I hope that at some point you manage to change jobs. It must be awful.

Tony Capstick would have just said "why don't you pith off" and that is

s why the listeners loved him.

  12. what i find strange is apart from the tree non issue which he has jumped on he hasnt done anything since going to the house of lords untill hes coming up to campaigning time a cynic would presume hes trying to get his name about again.

He is safely on the bandwagon the same as he was in Sheffield and that is all he and others like him care about .

    Troffers .

  13. Its a student village built by a wealthy Chinese company.

Dont think its exclusively for Chinese student's but it will be marketed directly to potential students in China so i guess there will be a high percentage from that region.

I love the Chinese......great people who integrate in the city so well.

Yes they have done wonders for our steel and cutlery works due to paying starvation wages in China.

But as you say they have integrated into our City very well.

  14. David Cameron has declared that all schools will become accademies .

He says that this will benefit all schools.

What he does not say is if he and his cabinet will be sending their own kids to these new schools.

Or indeed the children the rest of the public school educated establishment that are in the top 10% jobs in this Country.

  15. From 'Owls' on a train.

The police are looking to speak to these individuals.

    http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/video-sheffield-wednesday-fans-accused-of-racist-chanting-on-train-1-7797070

The inital part says about 10 people were chanting, but it looks like the police believe it was only 5 people.

    Hopefully they can catch them.

There has been a spate of this of late lets hope it does not spread into the stadiums.

  16. I don't know all the ins n outs, but when you see someone preparing to fight one of the best in the world you don't expect to see him sparring with his mates a day or so before the fight. Don't get me wrong, there were certain people who put a lot of time, money and effort into getting him the big fights, the rest were an embarrassment.

    Reading between the ropes ;)

  17. Good comedians don't need a script they empathy with the audience ,Tommy Cooper and Ken Dodd come to mind.

When Bobby Knutt ,Ron Delta etc were on the working mens clubs the material came from what the audience threw at them [literally some times] .

Any one who stood up to go to the lav was all these lads needed to bring the house down.

Tony White was another who could make a gag out of everyday life in an instant.
