  1. I think it's closed because the route crosses the A6102 at Oughtibridge as it comes down Church Street and up Jawbone.
  2. Seen him on West Street before as well - some were falling for it
  3. As far as I'm aware, this was actually the original plan until the tram came along. I'll bet in hindsight the planners wish they'd allowed the tunnel to be used by both cars and trams; it's not a problem anywhere else in the city and removing all traffic wishing to pass through on the A61 would be a big help to easing congestion.
  4. The lights already control the flow of traffic getting onto the roundabout. If they didn't, traffic coming from Walkley (at busy times at least) would never be able to get onto the roundabout because traffic from either Western Bank or Upper Hanover St would be stopping them. I think doing a similar scheme to Park Square which is now completely light-controlled might not be an option due to the size of the roundabout. Park Square is massive and so doesn't get snarled up, whereas I think Brook Hill would. Park Square also has one major flow (the Ring Road) and the other exits carry lighter traffic in comparison, whereas Brook Hill has high traffic flows from four directions.
  5. Can't say I like the idea of a 'super junction'. The biggest problem with Brook Hill is it's a four-exit roundabout with five exits, which is what causes it to be so chaotic. Not sure how a super junction would accommodate Bolsover St. I do agree with making it safer for pedestrians, as a student and a driver I see both sides of that problem and it is dangerous.
  6. Much longer than an hour at that time - whichever way you go you'll get stuck in Mottram which will be awful. Then you'll queue at the end of the M67 and down the M60 past Stockport. Alternatively, go the way all the Sheffield taxis use. It's a nice drive, is very likely to be quicker at rush hour and will definitely be less stressful. https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Sheffield&daddr=53.3170025,-1.9482993+to:53.3106349,-2.0516286+to:Manchester+Airport,+Manchester&hl=en&ll=53.339893,-1.814117&spn=0.533782,1.234589&sll=53.30298,-1.826477&sspn=0.534243,1.234589&geocode=FQmILgMde5Hp_ykVvuj6qQp5SDF4sAav9ScoPg%3BFYqNLQMddUXi_ynfKwYTcTR6SDGZQyLLDVrEoQ%3BFap0LQMd1LHg_ylZ_h7ZdEp6SDGghgzRlr6Alg%3BFdMwLgMdJlLd_yHgpeTlR4ILiynFk9jfwFJ6SDHgpeTlR4ILiw&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=10&via=1,2&t=m&z=10
  7. Well there's the Tesco/Esso at Nether Green and Cutlers on Northfield Rd, both of which always seem to be 2-3p a litre cheaper. Filled up at Crosspool once and never have since after discovering what a rip-off it is and I've never seen more than 4/5 cars in there at once, no wonder it's closing. Thinking about it, if the new development doesn't involve a petrol station, that means for anyone travelling from Brook Hill to Manchester there wouldn't be a single fuel stop until Glossop
  8. Where to start? Waller Road at Walkley - the upper part is horrific. Crookes main road is terrible considering it's a main route. Heavygate Road is also terrible, so bad that I avoid using it now. Also it seems that the Amey work hasn't started in the Fulwood/Ranmoor area, leaving almost every road in a shocking state - Gladstone Road and Tom Lane are both so bad that I don't even bother trying to carve a path through all the holes. At least Streets Ahead is slowly but surely rectifying this problem, how long the new roads will last for is another question - this winter wasn't cold enough to really test them.
  9. Just found this thread as it appears the Skelton Lane one-way scheme is finally going ahead this summer, along with a new car park on the patch of land next to the clinic and double yellows around all the junctions.
  10. That is nothing but a money-making scheme in that car park - they charge on Sundays when they know the Hillsborough Arena car park isn't big enough for all the cars that are there for kids football on Sunday mornings. I've been before and seen the wardens patrolling at 10am - they're employed just to patrol that car park because most of the permit/single yellow lines in Hillsborough are out of operation on Sundays.
  11. The nearest legal place apart from Meadowhall is Tockwith Airfield near York - just over an hour's drive from Sheffield. £20 for 90mins on an old runway with parking bays, roundabouts junctions etc, it's ideal. Just depends how far away you're willing to travel. http://www.tockwithmotorsports.net/Driving_school.html
  12. Depends which roads - going up School Road and most of the side streets 20mph is plenty but today on Northumberland Road I did 20 and was tailgated by a moron all the way. That also happens when I'm going up and down Upperthorpe.
  13. My girlfriend's dad caught someone looking in his car window about 6am yesterday morning. This was on Midfield Road at Crookes. Police came round patrolling but he'd gone by then.
  14. The Ball at Crookes is open all afternoon and evening on Christmas Day.
  15. Of course I understand there will be disruption, I just thought it could have been planned better so that the works took place at different times. Manchester Rd has been like that for over a year so it's hardly like the council consider the work urgent.
  16. Hi all, first-time poster so be nice After queuing for over 20mins yesterday down Stannington Road due to the roadworks, I decided to try the Hollins Lane route this morning and was stuck for the same amount of time. It seems that the council have had the bright idea of closing Manchester Road next month at the same time as the roadworks are ongoing at the bottom of Stannington Rd. Those works were (I am told by one of the Amey workers down there) only supposed to be carried out during the day i.e outside of rush hour, but as they are so far behind it is now a 7am-7pm job. This means that when Manchester Rd shuts next month, the only disruption-free route from Stannington into the city will be Hollins Lane. I'd love to know if the residents of Stannington were considered when all this work was approved to go ahead at the same time. Traffic chaos for the next few weeks is to expected Anyone else with the same worries as me?
