  1. Cheers Neil! Wow, really looking forward to my move now!
  2. Hey people I'm going to be moving to Dinnington soon. I was wondering if there's anyone on here that could shed a little light on what the place is like, what there is to do for a lad in his twenties, if there are any decent pubs etc... Any help would be appreciated! Oh, and most importantly, are there any outdoor basketball courts?! Cheers for your help!
  3. Apparently Jesus was born in Barnsley, but they couldn't find three wise men and a virgin so they changed the story when they wrote the bible...
  4. I would love to donate. Unfortunately I'm full to the eyeballs with anti-convulsants for my epilepsy so I'm 'not acceptable'.
  5. I grew up in Huddersfield and only moved to Sheffield about two years ago. I still go back frequently as my family live there and still have plenty of friends to catch up with. I love Huddersfield. The town centre is clean, I've never had any problems with abusive/threatening kids, and there're a lot of pedestrianised areas, which is always good for shopping. I hold a different view to Artisan in reference to the nightlife. Granted there aren't as many clubs as Sheffield, but there are quality bars in abundance. There is a very high police presence on Friday and Saturday nights which always keeps the trouble down and a lot of the bars are concentrated around one area making it handy to stumble into the next one! Village wise I would highly recommend Marsden. You can get into town in just over ten minutes on the train. It is a very picturesque village and all the residents are friendly. If you've ever seen 'Where the Heart is' on ITV, that's Marsden. Hope you manage to find somewhere nice
  6. I would be looking for a two hour booking preferably if we are going to get a hall. Bit too cold for outdoor at that kind of time. Plus the outdoor Adidas rims aren't too forgiving, especially if you're a bit rusty! If we're booking a hall though need more numbers.... COME ON PEOPLE! There was more interest than this last month!!
  7. Hey people, I posted a thread similar to this a while back but there were hardly any takers. If I could get a rough idea of the numbers willing to play I would try to find a sports hall somewhere. What would be the best night for everyone? How about Tuesdays? Get your names down on here, lets make a go of it!!
  8. One of the other reasons some people charge virtually no cost on eBay yet extortionate P+P is if they are expecting come back from customers wanting a refund. If they offer refunds in their policies they are not obligated to refund P+P cost. Hence if you buy Rolling Stones tickets for 60p and pay £100 for the postage and packaging, you may think it is the seller doging eBay fees, yet it could be that they don't want to offer a substantial refund. There are so many loopholes in eBay policy I'm afriad...
  9. If you can weight the item, check out the Post Office website. It lists a price guide by weight. Going by the size it will definately be classed as a parcel. They should be able to give you a pretty accurate cost.
  10. I run a shop on eBay (obvious by the sig!) and I've had trouble with Royal Mail before. Obviously I conceed that a customer could simply lie that a product hasn't arrived, however while trying to build a good reputation feedback-wise, is it worth the hassle? I think the only solution to the common problems on there are to only accept Paypal, offer postage insurance at a slight extra fee (it is only a small fee) and add a disclaimer stating that insurance is offered and that any missing items cannot be refunded or replaced should the insurance not be taken out. Obviously all the above are to cover your own ass when selling, as for buying I think it's a case of using your head and only going for reputable buyers with solid feedback scores. It's also quite often worth asking questions before buying to get a 'feel' for the seller and if you think they're legitimate.
  11. I believe it was approximately 18% black and 15% white that lead to convictions? Don't quote me on that though, I don't have the article to hand. It was more black than white though. Would it be newsworthy if it was the other way around?
  12. Sorry, that was the only one I could find. I'm sure the figures haven't changed dramatically enough to make a significant difference.
  13. I was reading a report in Metro this morning about the stats behind 'random' drug stop and searches. Apparently the police are biased in that only 38% of those stopped are white as appose to 40% black. The report failed to mention other ethnicities such as chinese, mixed/dual heritage or asian. Looking on the ethnic stats for Sheffield, over 90% of the city is of white origin where as only 1.8% are black/black British. (Census 2001) So, are the police racist? Surely if the searches were random they would reveal stats similar to those of the ethnic origin census? But then again, can you imagine the headlines if over 90% of searches were performed on people of white origin? What do you think?
  14. I swear by T-Mobile Flext. Pay 30 quid a month and get 200 quid credit for SMS MMS and calls. Plus a free phone, how can anyone possibly say Pay As You Go is a better deal unless they spend under 30 a month?!
  15. Is there anything to do twith the Harrisons on there?
  16. Im 24 and still get asked for ID roughly once every couple of weeks! They say I should take it as a compliment, but to be honest, I'd rather get in the club that be told I look youthful by a big burly bouncer!
  17. I'm already planning to get down there for this one, sounds promising following some good recent results. Might be a good introduction for people who've never been before? Give it a go people!
  18. I did a week long first aid course at the Source outside Meadowhall. It cost in the region of £140. The guys that run it were fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone. If you work for a large company they may be able to cover fees if you wish to to a First Aid at Work course.
  19. I've used Phones 4 U for about 5 years now and I've never had a problem with them, infact I'd say they're probably one of the most helpful places I've ever shopped at. Maybe you just managed to get a couple of dodgy staff members? I couple of years back I was really desperate for this new model phone that had only just been released. They only had one left in the Yorkshire branches, in Leeds. This one sales assistant drove in his own car from Huddersfield just to pick it up for me the same day. I was very chuffed with their service! I think I'm right in saying the guys at Phones 4 U don't get a commision on handset sales either, or if they do, it's around a quid....
  20. I so want to not bite, but hey, I have sod all else to do. 1. When you talk of Canadians being 'stupid cousins', what point are you trying to make/argue with? 2. Based on other sports? Basketball invented 1891, netball in 1895. 3. Check out the attendence figures for basketball in other European countries. the game is a lot bigger than you think. Oh, and the World Series? Many think it is down to American arrogance. The main idea over the pond is that it was sponsored by New York World newspaper and the name stuck. It actually dates back to when the two main baseball leagues played off against one another. The entitled the competition 'The World Championship Series' with the ideal that eventually it was to be open to more than one country, including Great Britain. This didn't happen and over the years the name became the World's Series and finally World Series. It has stuck ever since. Oh yeah, and it is never used as a term in basketball. 4. So basketball gets a bad rep for being 'non-contact' but then gets stuck with 'it's all about the fighting and brute force'? It's actually semi contact, and as for no skill, I defy you to get on a court with a basic understanding of the rules and then tell me there's no skill involved. 5. As for stupid. Coming from the guy that can't tell the difference between Canada and America and is also too slow to Google 'World Series'... Well, I hate to break it to you... I know your post was intended to make me bite, and I hope I didn't disappoint. If you want a serious conversation, pm me sometime.
  21. And when exactly did the Sharks stop playing? I went to my first Steelers game last weekend. I enjoyed it but knowing nothing about the rules I found it quite difficult to understand. I'll be sure to get a little advance reading in before I go back! It does make a refreshing change from football. One attitude I am sick of hearing (as a basketball fan) is 'Bloody stupid yank sport'. For one it was invented by a Canadian! Ice hockey suffers the same jibe, incorrectly, again. It's unfortunate that people can't see beyond football, rugby and cricket in this country. Every person I've taken to watch my team play the stupid yank sport have had a great experience and gone back for more. Each to their own, and I don't begrudge people not liking the same sport as me. I am just tired of hearing criticism before people have even given it a chance. To the orginal poster, get yourself down to a Steelers game, maybe you and your fella might both enjoy it? I hoping to go again sometime soon. Sans big stupid foam hand!
  22. It definitely is coming to Meadowhall. We received an update leaflet a couple of weeks back, sent out to every store. It announed the two flagship stores replacing Sanisburys will be Primark and Next.
  23. I think Fotogenik on the Lanes in Meadowhall can arrange for someone to shoot stuff outside of their store... try them maybe? 0114 256 8006
  24. Does anybody know the name of the book/art store on the Moor? I've tried using Google but can't find anything. I think it's near Sainsburys...
