Why Wednesday are the biggest team in Sheffield
G-blade replied to CorkerSWFC's topic in Sheffield Football
The point is though is it progression? Some people could say its a stopgap. Overall I think ( for all my joking ) MM is a good thing for you boys. However I would be a tad careful as to where this may lead. McCabe for all his faults would be a different matter. -
Shall we keep it on thread or shall we talk about another blue club? I can see it landing now

Why Wednesday are the biggest team in Sheffield

I can comment on Sheffield football and be unbiased. My allegiance is obviously with United but I can hold a debate withouth blinkers. Wednesday have a bigger ground true but do you go for quality or quantity? So in my opinion the clubs are evenly balanced with both coming out on top in various areas. The biggest difference is league placing but that doesn't make a bigger club just look at Wigan to see the flaw. If the op wasn't as sexed up it wouldn't have gotten a reaction, in my opinion of course -

I think what us Blades are trying to say is the op was sexed up to make Wednesday look like some extra ordinary football club. -
Is it fact though? I voted on the best goal which in my opinion wasnt the jared one. Some United fans voted so he wouldn't win but on the other hand some Wednesday fans voted just so he could win. Both wrong and if I was the other way around it would probably be the same.

No I'm not for one minute just highlighting how you can manipulate facts. It's down to an opinion but the op in my unbiased opinion was flawed. The problem with most Wednesday posters regarding this thread is they are totally blinkered by last year. Are Wednesday bigger no. Have they had better support in some games yes. Are they in a higher league yes. Are they in a better financial position, debatable. Do they have a more modern ground, no. Do they have a better academy, no. Have Wednesday in the last 10 years been more successful, no. We can go round in circles all night but again the op was flawed. -

Anyway this thread's heading round in circles, so i'll bow out That started as soon as someone questioned the op. -

Really when was that? Are you forgetting our youth side got to a final not so long ago. If any Wednesday side got to a final last year I will stand corrected:) -

I never said there was any untruths in the op. I said facts were cherry picked to suit. -

This is where the opening thread is flawed. Wednesday are a division higher nothing more nothing less. I could say which Sheffield side last had a team in a cup final. If as suspected a few more young players play first team football for United next season then we could have more internationals in our side so does that make us bigger? -

So current league position doesn't count for anything now like what some people are saying. Which is it, you can't have it all ways. -

If you recall I have not mentioned size of crowds or the fact that s6 hosted world cup games. If you are going to use facts to glorify your ground then you should also except a counter that highlights failings. -

This is England mate. And do only English players play football? Its history. A more balanced post would have said how many current international players play for each side at the moment. -

United have supplied a player to the England team on 98 occasions. Wednesday have supplied a player to the England team on 256 occasions. And that's a big difference. Another one cherry picking stats. How many Australian, Greek etc players have Wednesday had ? Pointless post. -
Why Wednesday are the biggest team in Sheffield
G-blade replied to CorkerSWFC's topic in Sheffield Football
Because my friend it is one fact out of over a hundred years of history. At the moment your team is in a higher division nothing else. If you read my post it said " cherry picking facts " Now where is my telescope -

You forgot to mention the glory of two " save our Wendy campaigns " As per usual cherry picking facts without revealing the true story. How deluded can the deluded get ? Massively delusional. -
Harry Maguire completes Barca switch £83million

£83,000,000 A pound for every galaxy that supports Wednesday -
Williamson is hit and miss, but in this league he is quality. Hopefully he will sign for another year. Agree. Personally I think we are getting a little too jumpy at the moment.

Heart says horrendous decision, head otherwise. For most clubs in Britain these days finances are paramount the supporters feelings secondary. Unfortunately it's the world we are in. However unpalatable I don't think either set of supporters would say no to the thought of investment like that. Just a thought if your club was in a position like Pompey would you go mad if an invester was to say "ill pump in £100 million if things are changed" No you wouldn't but agreed its a sad state of affairs.

Just think barca outbidding Milan. Well they only have a nation to back them unlike his team that has far bigger resources. -
Well perhaps united fans voted for the Southend goal because it was in their opinion better like I did. Perish the thought. Your fans voted for jarred just because he is a Wednesday player and nothing else. So in summary United fans voted for a better goal and you lot couldn't stand it. So who are the childish ones ? Like I said in my post it was ruined because of this. Your post and actions from your fellow supporters leads me to believe the arrogance is resurfacing if indeed it ever went.

Does that mean we are a feeder club for barca then -
All decent goals to be fair but lets dissect this. Why was the winning goal the winning goal? Because it was against a United team? Possibly. Even some Wednesday posters say it shouldn't have won so it boils down to something else. If it was a true competition then fans of all ilk would have voted for another goal but no some blue fans just couldn't stand it. A player from a small club win goal of the season ? No way we can't allow that say some Wednesday fans because we are a much bigger club United fans did vote in reaction to the immature actions of some Wednesday fans and in my opinion wrecked the competition. I actually feel sorry for the lads involved.
