  1. Everyone has a right to respect in respective of creed, colour, religion, age, gender or sexuality. To keep getting it MUST be earned!!!
  2. Why not have a scooter path at the side of the cycle path !!:
  3. Ill be the first to say we should show our elders the respect they rightly deserve but it works both ways, and i have seen and heard the comments from some oaps thinking the bus is there for there benifit only !!!
  4. I'm not complaining about mothers with prams on buses it was the O.A.Ps who did that!!! Kids can be rude whilst waiting for and getting on the bus ! People should know how to behave and take others in to consideration !! I always give up my seat to a person who needs it most on a bus too. PS Thanks for pointing out spelling mistake in the title, its now put right
  5. I know this post is going to make me very unpopular but complain about the way children behave while waiting/ getting on the bus. But as my car is off the road i had to catch the bus to work yesterday from S5 to town. I was the third in the Que ,a mother with a pram was first then a o.a.p second, Within seconds about four o.a.p.s turned up and stood chatting to the other in front of me,so what you may say but then about another 5 turned up and stood round the bus stop when the bus came they all moved forward and pushed there way on to the bus, they gave the mother with the pram such a look and a tut as she was on the front seat of the bus with the pram and no room for shopping trolleys. If this is our Parents/grandparents know wonder the world is full of ignorant kids !!!
  6. To be honest this is just off the top of my head as i don't honestly know,i would imagine that the bus would be cheaper to Donny, but my son goes a lot to Donny and says the train is cheaper and quicker. For local journeys with in Sheffield if more than one person pays for a taxi it works out considerably cheaper. as an example a three mile trip from Shirecliffe to city center is £1.95 single fair. Its far cheaper to use my car if 2,3 or 4 of us go to town.
  7. I saw the TV report on Calendar and was amazed to hear the "Chief Constable's" opinion saying "We have to get things in to perspective hear No one has been Murdered and no one physically harmed" !!!! This guy wants to live on a council estate and put up with anti social behavior form so called yobs!! Attitudes like this make me sick
  8. I have to admit I'm not a regular bus passenger but on Saturday i had to go to the Norther General Hospital,i was to ill to drive,my wife insisted we got a taxi to the NGH but me being tight i said we should catch the bus (mainline). But my wife won and booked us a Mercury Taxi. The journey was only about 2 1/2 miles but it was cheaper than the bus, took us door to door, warmer and took less time . And the government want more people to use public transport !!
  9. Mentioned in this thread are the Fiddler's, who owned the field and had the ballroom built, does anyone know if they are the same Fiddler's who owned the stone masons and memorial service on Mansfield road, Intake, Sheffield next to the cemetery(They were called the fiddler brothers) A big family around Intake and Gleadless. Think there shop is still there to this day.
  10. Didn'T know he lived in Sheffield but did know there was a Sheffield connection in the early 80s my mate Lloyd was a session Guitarist and was offered a few gigs as stand in Guitarist with the Glitter band,He turned it down as he didnt think he would fit in as he was more of a rock Guitarist.(bet hes glad he did now, as this was before all the info came out) The other slight connection with Sheffield was Steve Lindley Glitters EX-Tour manager once worked for Radio Hallam as a promo man,He got the sack for an encounter with a young girl at one of Radio Hallams roadshows in the back of the Van.(Just goes to show) Remember it being reported on the front page of the Sheffield Star but cant remember the year. The final connection was when i was working as DJ at the Crows Nest pub on the Hyde park in the early 80s when a guy came in and said he designed the Star shaped guitar for Glitter and some guitars for for other famous people.
  11. Forgive me if I'm wrong but wasn't Fred Hartley an Ex Sheffield footballer not sure which team, when he retired from sport he then went in to the retail trade. I remember he had a large shop at Manor Top in sheffield next to where Neto is today just behind the Elm Tree pub,it was a bit like Wilkinson's is today sold a bit of everything.
  12. Presenter Dave Kilner dies We're sad to report the death of well known Yorkshire radio host Dave Kilner. The former Hallam FM, Magic AM and Peak FM presenter passed away today aged 48, after a short illness. He joined Radio Hallam on a Youth Training Scheme in 1979 and went on to host the drivetime show before moving to the progamme on which he made his name, the mid-morning show. In 1996 he left to help launch Peak FM but returned to the (then) Emap station in 2001 to work on the station's charity, Help a Hallam Child raising millions of pounds. Dave was also the match day announcer at Sheffield United Football Club for three decades. The club has paid tribute to his life and career this afternoon on its website. Hallam FM's Twitter update currently reads: "A Hallam FM and Sheffield legend is gone but never forgotten. Our thoughts are with Dave Kilner's wife Shirley and family. R.I.P Dave x" Hallam FM is due to release a statement tomorrow morning.
  13. does any one remember Bill and Terry the organist and drummer at the Foundry workers wmc in the 70s or remember Maurice the drummer from southall wmc or do you have any pics or know what happened to them.
  14. Not sure if it was the first but in 1969 Ridgeway road From Manor top to Gleadless town end was one of the first dual carriageways in the city. I lived on Ridgeway road at the time and watched it being built and the chaos when it first opened even the buses could be seen driving down the wrong side of the road, good job it wasn't as busy as it is today.
  15. Its nice to know there are some honest people still around who are willing to return it !!
