  1. 1st club in Championship history to stay up despite not winning any of their 1st 13 games.
  2. Glad thats over! Roberts almost opened the scoring but miscued his early chance and O Nien thought he had scored, fortunately the flag was raised, in between Wednesday went close with Ugbo and Musaba who was very well policed, but the nerves were eased when a clever ball inside the box from Bannan was stuck home at the rookie keepers front post by Palmer after 29 mins. 5 minutes later the lively Clarke was given too much room and he clipped the back stick with a well struck shot, 4 mins after S'land were left ruing the post when Valentin found Windass inside the box and he duly tucked away his chance, both sides carved out half chances, Beadle making one decent stop almost on the HT whistle. S'land made changes, at the break and the game swung both ways without any really clear cut efforts, the results came in that ALL of the sides involved for the final drop slot were winning and Wednesday saw it out to condemn Birmingham to relegation despite their 1 nil win. Long summer ahead and lots of decisions to be made.
  3. Id have taken 21st place back in august, Ive watched sport long enough to know we arent yet safe, but its looking likely. Its been, as ever watching Wednesday, a rollercoaster season, hopefully chansiri can match Rohls ambitions, the up coming meeting will paint Rohls future, hopefully we can keep hold of him and bring in the players to shove us further up the table without the need for luck and final day nerves. No surprises from me about the change Id love to see at s6. Be nice to have Sheffield derbies back again, its been too long, sounds like some rebuilding will take place across the city, youd expect united to be strong contenders for promotion, but new players take time to gel. Close season will be big for both sides of the city.
  4. Thought they played well today, took the game to WBA and really stretched them, Musaba when hes on his games a real handful for any side continued after the break and good value at 3-0. Their subs made a difference and Beadle made more stops, some very decent ones as well, in the last 15 minutes than the rest of the entire 75 as Albion finally got the upper hand, but the young keeper held firm. Almost there now, whod have thought this at the start of december 12 points adrift and looking dead and buried.
  5. Ive just looked at an online one which has wednesday 9th with a 16.9M wage bill which may not be far off, but then down in15th place are Ipswich with 12M, the only issue there is, Ipswich had a 16M plus wage bill LAST season and have had added to the squad and paid promotion salary increases this. So like I said take it with a pinch of salt kidda.
  6. The accounts for this season wont be published untill late summer, so noboddy knows what Wednesdays wage bill is bud, any figures youve found are just a guess. Wednesday had a wage bill of around 10M last season, 2nd highest in league one we know this from the accounts of the clubs involved.
  7. This graph of DCs spending on transfers might make things a little clearer .
  8. Fab day out in Blackburn for me and my offspring, shame Ive given up booze or Id be having a couple tonight and raising a glass to ainsley pears the rovers keeper 🤣. A blistering start from Wednesday aided by pears early error, racing halfway up the pitch to head a clearance that windass lofted over his head from 30 yards into the net. But with Owls fans still celebrating a defensive clearance caught Famewo flat footed and Smodicz raced clear to beat Beadle at his near post and pour cold water allover the early joy, Blackburn grew in stature and seemed to win all the 2nd balls but couldnt force a 2nd goal and we were gratefull to be level at the break. But it was a different looking Owls that started the 2nd period on the front foot and forced the home side to defend, Vaulks worked tirelessly and it was his interception that sent Musaba, with his 1st meaningfull contribution, away down the right, his low cross into the box tucked home at the back stick infront of a packed away end by Johnson whod had a torrid first half, on the hour mark and 6 minutes later pears made his 2nd comedy gaff of the day, a back pass saw him miss control with his feet, and the ball spun away from him and the turnaround was complete. Pears made amends with a superb stop from Vaulks freekick the looked to be heading into the top corner. Rovers skied a decent chance near the end but, were well beaten as George Byers celebrated among the masses of visiting Owls in the darwen end.
  9. Ian Herbert really loves taking cheap shots at the club
  10. Scrap two legged ties for the european games instead. Its getting boring now, a handful of clubs dictating how our domestic competitions should run.
  11. A few fat ladies got together and formed a choir for that lot by the end of November 🤣
  12. Absolutely battered Stoke 1st half but just couldnt force the ball home, cleared off the line, superb saves and the bar all came to stokes recue as they threw bodies in the way and were forced to defend for their lives, when Smith did get the ball in the net it was rather harshly ruled out for a push and then Valentin was felled by an arm to throat inside the box but play continued. Stoke at least made a fist of it without really stretching the keeper but it wasnt untill 20 mins from time that Wednesdays efforts finally paid of with a fine half volley from Palmer, but we got caught upfield as stoke broke out 8 minutes later and their sub fired across beadle to equalise. Dissapointing result, but we had the chances to win handsomely.
  13. Khamikaze stuff from Wednesday 1st half, Norwich pressed high but we persisted playing out from the back which beggered belief. we got a warning when Beadle made a fine stop to deny them the opener, but we got caught twice in 5 minutes and but for the keeper we could have gone in 4 or 5 down by halftime. Rohld the dice with changes at the break and begun to force Norwich back and forced them to defend, but it wasnt until 12 minutes from time that we made it pay, ironically having not scored from corners all season we scored from 2 in the space of 7 minutes, but despite sustained pressure at the end couldnt find a winner. Weve got to be smarter at the back when sides come to our place and press high up.
  14. After 4 really abject performances on the bounce I didnt go to QPR with much hope, wed been static and lifeless, but from the start Wednesday looked like theyd had raw meat for lunch and fought for every ball, a huge improvement. Rangers had plenty of pots at goal but never really troubled Beadles goal and the Owls had the 2 best chances of the half, Windass seemingly cleared Povedas shot off the line? and Gassama was inches away beating the keeper but just the wrong side of his back stick. The improvement continued after the break as QPR continued to sit quite deep, it was Gassama that broke the deadlock with a tricky peice of skill inside their area and a large slice of look as the defenders clearance cannoned into the net off him, Rangers best effort came 5 minutes later, you could see their overload develop inside the box and a goal looked inevitable, but another slice of luck went Wednesdays way as the shot came back off the bar, The Owls sealed the points in stoppage time Gassama providing the ball thats was tucked away by sub Musaba. A deserved win for a vastly improved Wednesday who need to carry the performance and commitment into the next 5 games. On the stregth of yesterdays game weve booked tickets for the early kick off @ Blackburn in 2 weeks time.
  15. No worries mate shame the game was rubbish, Im watching the Ipswich game now, much better watch. Once you know how to navigate the ads its a doddle.
