blusky   10 #49 Posted September 4, 2007 People have funny ideas about Stocksbridge. I doubt most of you have actually been there.  I agree with you.  There are some silly arses on here, like on the Wharncliffe Side thread.  They probably live in a chavvy scumball area and are jealous or have nothing better to do than have a go. blusky   10 #50 Posted September 4, 2007 I've been several times. The last time I was there Ronny Cox was playing a banjo with some weird kid.  Was that you!?
 Share this content via...
crookesey   636 #51 Posted September 4, 2007 People have funny ideas about Stocksbridge. I doubt most of you have actually been there.  I like to see folk sticking up for the place they live. I live in a place that I like that happens to be in the south of the city and appears to be fair game on this forum for some north Sheffield folk to constantly have a go at.  If someone wants to live in Stocksbrige and likes Stocksbridge it's fine with me. If folk don't want to live in Stocksbridge and for whatever reason don't like Stocksbridge so be it.  My only knowledge of Stocksbridge is through local football, and didn't you know that that you had been in a full blooded battle after a confrontation with a Stocksbridge side? We never got our cars broken into though as was the case in respect of Concord and Steel City.
 Share this content via...

Longcol   610 #53 Posted September 4, 2007 My name is Spencer Pitfield and I am the recently selected Conservative Candidate for Penistone and Stocksbridge.  With a name like that you must be suicidal to stand there! I'd change your name by deed poll to something like Bert Smith pdq.  And don't forget the "r" on the end of Deepcar is silent, and it isn't Midhopestones but Midup. Refer to the steelworks as "Foxes". Don't be fooled by the name of the pub "The Friendship". If you canvass on Kenworthy Road (pronounced roo-ad) an armoured car escort would come in handy. midvixen   10 #54 Posted September 4, 2007 I made a bit of a mistake by accepting a council house on there when my hubby and I moved into the area from lincolnshire.  Had we known at the time the reputation of the road we would have stayed well clear............  BUT............  We are still here over ten years later and even though we've had troubles on the street, it is ususally down the phone box end (Beiruit) and not up this end - thank god!!! raven13 Â Â 10 #56 Posted September 4, 2007 I'm not sure about the opinion that Stocksbridge are mistrusting of outsiders. I've lived here since March and although I haven't made any real 'friends', the people have been very friendly and I was quickly on greeting terms with the neighbors. Having asked other newcomers here (who I met at new mums group) they said the same - that they felt a real friendliness here - perhaps rather than a close knit community pushing people out this factor has actually added to its friendliness. Â Of course there are a few 'bad eggs' (usually teen kids hanging around shouting at the top of their voices) but on the whole its a lovely place...just wish there weren't so many bloody hills to climb! Â Midvixen: I am on Glebelands by the phonebox...its pretty quiet these days I think.
 Share this content via...

The one my wife went to for our first kid was in Wharncliffe Side and has now shut down. The road closure means anything in hillsborough is apain to get too.  Any info would be really appreciated. We are a bit cut off in Oughtie these days!
 Share this content via...
blusky   10 #59 Posted September 4, 2007 Yeah that was me watching you playing the banjo with Ronny Cox.  That was me being nice and sarcastic. What I really meant was this thread is a serious one about Stocksbridge, not a thread for morons like you to have a go at local real people you know nothing about.
