Yes it was quiet and easy to board but I do t think that's why it closed ? If it had international world flights it may still be operating.
 Share this content via...

If it had international world flights it may still be operating. It was exactly the reason why it closed. Airports being very quiet and very easy to board means they've got sod all passenger numbers.   Sod all passenger numbers = limited fee income = no profit.  It did have international flights but not of the high calibre bulk flagship airlines like some of the rival ones. Big international flights require big volumes of passengers which is something that Doncaster never achieved. Not even close to even it's nearest rivals.  In it's near two decades long operation it couldn't attract even one flagship airline at a time when the budget carriers was in its boom. The best it could do was a tiny number of seasonal package holiday charters or few times weekly limited eastern europe destinations. The vast majority of its flight routes didn't even have a daily service, let alone multiple times a day.  Is there really such a vast demand of all these South Yorkshire folk flying off to Beijing, Singapore, Australia and the United States on a regular basis to make it profitable? If TUI flights to Alicante were struggling - it's just fantasy land.  Just a big ego trip to the SY Regional Mayor and Doncaster Council trying to show dominance now it's got city status.  If an established operator already running other successful businesses struggled to get it traction what the hell are a load of civil servants and deluded councillors going to achieve.  Everyone's screaming about a reopening really needs to think hard about how often THEY use it. Because once a year package holiday to Spain isn't going to cut it. Edited November 19, 2023 by ECCOnoob
 Share this content via...
