A Couple Of Questions About Covid.

Recommended Posts

My neighbour asked me a couple of questions about Covid and Omricon but I’m not sure what to tell her. There are many more intelligent people on here than myself, so here goes.

1.  If you have been diagnosed with either Covid or Omricon and you have been isolating for the appropriate time, do you still have to get a negative reply on a Covid Self Test, before you can mix with other people.? This is important to her as she is having people to her house for Christmas dinner.

2. If you have the new variety called Omricon ( not sure how to spell it ) is it the same self test kit as for the Corona virus. ?

Hope you can help me here, as this lady is in her 90s and housebound, so any information would help her. Thank you.

You're honestly expecting accurate medical advice on here?!

Here's the official NHS advice for self-isolation.  It doesn't mention taking a test at the end of the ten day period, but it does talk about what to do if the person is still experiencing certain symptoms.

You still use the same test kits.

Omicron is much more transmissible than previous variants of the virus, and even if you're fully vaccinated and boostered you can get reinfected.  I'd make sure that everyone has a negative test before getting together, and be quite cautious indoors (good ventilation and so on).

Omicron gives the same result as previous versions of Covid.

If you show no major symptoms or no new symptoms after 10 days you are OK to mix (taste loss does not count as it can last for weeks).

According to my leaflet the lateral flow tests are unreliable for 90 days after a confirmed Covid infection and should not be used.

Everybody else who visits your neighbour should take a lateral flow test just before visiting.

Thank you Hecate. Your information is exactly what I was wanting. Also the click on helpline is very informative.

We are on day 3 of our isolation. I'm starting to think about getting an 'all clear' understanding from the official advice.

After reading the above and the link is the following correct?............

I will/may not be able to get an all clear reading from a LFT (or a PCR test?) for 90 days

After 10 days IF I have no symptoms of Covid19 infection

- I will be able to circulate, socialise and mix with the general population, family and friends.*

*In compliance with current lock down legal requirements whatever they maybe after 28th December.

If correct, IMO, its not a very convincing 'all clear' but may be legal. Government advice (not legal instruction) is different to the above. Visiting my Mum in a care home will be only be with the permission of the care home management.

Dont get tested unless your sick

And if you have Covid and you still dont feel unwell then just go about your life as normal

Most people have been vaccinated so are as protected as they will ever be 👍

Thank you Jack for your advice.

@pattricia assuming your question has been answered - closing this thread as we don't need another Covid thread.
