Hi all

Doing a bit of family research and my dads birth certificate says the family lived in Bowden Street. I believe it was somewhere in the city centre but doesn't exist anymore.

dad was born in 1928 if that helps anyone.

It also tells me his dad was a coal miner at the time does anyone have any idea where he might have worked in that area

Try the Sheffield Library or the land registry?

Bowden Street crossed Button lane.

Button Lane, like Bowden Street,  no  longer exists because it ran from The Moor, at the back of Debenhams department store  (Charter Row side) before Debenhams was built

and I remember it from the 40's and 50's as the Theatrical Supplies shop (Joke shop) was on there and supplied me with stink bombs amongst many other things.

Bowdon Street still exists but the houses were demolished many years ago;  there are now modern office buildings etc. there. Here is a link to an old map showing Bowdon Street: https://i.postimg.cc/sXRz8qBB/aMap.jpg  The nearest coal mine in 1928 would have been the Nunnery Colliery - see Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nunnery_Colliery
