Government cash surplus-does anyone understand it and can explain it t

Recommended Posts

Example of what? I'm not saying taxes don't exist, or that they don't sometimes go up!

As it happens, those on benefits or a low income can claim a council tax reduction of up to 100%.

Not true. Welfares been cut, benefit claimants make a contribution, you are talking about things you clearly have no knowledge of.

What's not true? I provided a link to the government's website.

It might not be true in Sheffield, as the link clearly says,

What you get depends on:

where you live - each council runs its own scheme.

That doesn't mean it isn't true.

Where does the figure come from, it's not one I recognise.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/03/19/tax-burden-wealthy-has-trebled-since-1970s-telegraph-analysis/

They are HMRC statistics.

Those who can't get a council tax break though, so the low paid just out of the welfare band are taxed at basically the same rate as the comfortable and the well off.

CT is a regressive tax.

VAT is a regressive tax.

I found the article about the 1%. Then I found this.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/lowest-earners-more-tax-richest-office-national-statistics-inequality-council-tax-vat-equality-trust-a7704331.html

It really depends on how you look at it doesn't it.

The figure in the telegraph is specifically about income tax isn't it. No consideration for indirect taxation.

We've spoken about stealth taxes, if that's what you mean by indirect taxation. These are also lowest for the lowest earners, as per the article I linked earlier.

Of course as a proportion of income the lowest earners will pay out more in taxes, but they also receive the most in benefits. The system is set out to reduce these differences.

Don't need a link. They cut wellfare, housing benefit & council tax benefit from 2011 onwards. Why are you ignoring all the damaging cuts?

Welfares been cut. This simply isn't true. The lack of safety net is reason for growing homelessness & temp accommodation

Housing went to LHA rate, under 35s got cut & over 35s get a 1 bed rate. Even disabled are asked to contribute out of benefits.
