samssong Posted February 3, 2017 Share Posted February 3, 2017 The big stink that has been caused by the Democratically elected Government in America banning Muslim visitors or immigrants from various Countries is no different from what has been happening in some of those Countries for decades. Women have been banned from those Countries unless they wear head covering , that is fact , this ban effects millions of women World wide who are forced to dress in a certain fashion even though they may want to dress in Western clothes a style of dress that seems to be ok for the rulers and men folk in those Countries . I'm sure you're not suggesting that people can't complain about something (e.g the Trump ban) when there are other things in the world to complain about (e.g women's rights). If you thought that should be the case it wouldn't be possible to complain or protest about anything - there would always be something else. If you are suggesting that anyone who complains about the Trump ban has to prove they are equally upset about women's rights in the middle east then that is also illogical. How do you know that the people protesting Trump aren't also concerned about the rights of women in the middle east, and laws regarding the wearing of the Hijab and other clothing. Democracy means that the government is appointed by and a servant of, the people of the country. Says nothing about immigration policy. I'm not a supporter of this ban by the way. In Trump case the ban is based on the list of "countries of concern" (proposed by previous administration, btw). Is it reasonable? Is it effective? Should the list be longer/shorter? Those can be topic of discussions and arguments. On the other hand, ban of women without head covers in muslim countries is based purely on religious discrimination, therefore instantly despicable.
