FESTIVAL OF 10bn at the University

If the population is decreasing why have they had to open new schools with even more planned?

The crazy immigration system in this country leaves local authorities guessing. They can not possibly plan and budget properly. Will 150 thousand come to Britain next year? 200 thousand? 300 thousand? more?? who knows, there isn't a limit. :loopy:

It seems the University is having a festival about the future population of the earth reaching 10bn.

Isnt the population of Sheffield actually decreasing at the moment?

Now, brace yourself, but Sheffield isn't the centre of the known universe or indeed a barometer of the planet earth.

Reaching 10bn is nothing to celebrate either.

They're not really very sure about this: not long ago on the University's homepage there was an article about how the population was going to reach 10 bn but then just below it was a link to another article which showed that the world population was going to decrease!

I think that is precisely the problem......

Some people think it is an issue while some dont. The confusion creates paralysis where people sit and wait and dont do anything---same for climate change (which is of course related)....

It seems like a good opportunity to debate the whole thing and meet with experts who have some idea of the main issues

I don't think the festival is designed as a celebration - it appears to me more like a forum for discussion and the sharing of information and ideas.

Anyway, have a look, see what you think:

The space for nature debate might be worthwhile ....clearly there is no room for trees in Sheffield when AMEY are around
