  1. Think Al Bundy might have called it right here.
  2. Morrisons at Hillsborough is one example, I think.
  3. Yes,, I've noticed I nearly always get stopped at them as well. To be honest I'm not completely convinced this junction needs lights at all - is Middlewood Road that busy? Traffic has to get in and out of Langsett Avenue without the benefit of lights and seems to do it quite efficiently.
  4. Hmm. Wednesday lost 4-0, United losing 4-0 after half an hour prompts me to ask: what's the worst combined performance by both Sheffield teams on a single day? Anything worse than 8-0?
  5. We did think about it being a mink, but she reckons it wasn't dark enough brown for one. I'd have thought that mink was more likely than polecat.
  6. A couple of nights ago my wife was driving on Soughley Lane (from Wortley end towards Deepcar end, so heavily wooded) when an animal ran across the road in front of her. She says it was shaped like a stoat or weasel, but much bigger. The only thing that seems to fit the bill is a polecat. Does anybody know if they live in that area, or has anybody else seen one?
  7. I still think the Leppings Lane/Penistone Road junction worked better as a roundabout, though that was admittedly before the addition of an extra set of lights at Sainsburys.
  8. They might as well sell off Hillsborough Park for all the use local residents get from it. What with having some of it fenced off while they widened the tarmaced paths, then the Arctic Monkeys, then Tramlines, then months for it to recover, not to mention Sheffield Wednesday commandeering the car park every match day, it's a wonder anybody bothers to go there.
  9. The number of roads closed for this event this year seems more than ever, and the whole park has been boarded up for two weeks beforehand instead of the usual one, and it will presumably take them another fortnight to take them all down afterwards. Even Taplin Road was closed this morning - what's the point of that? People have to go down it to avoid getting fined for going through the tram gate. Time the whole thing was either discontinued or moved somewhere more appropriate. I hope they all get rained on uninterruptedly all weekend.
  10. If it was somebody I desperately wanted to see I'd still say it's in the wrong place.
  11. First it was Tramlines. It's only one weekend, they said. Except it's not, the park is boarded up off limits for a week before and a week after. And then lots of roads are shut on the days involved whic makes it difficult to get down to Hillsborough. Now it's the same thing with the Arctic Monkeys so that will be a whole month that the park's out of action. Maybe it would be good of the council to give us all a council tax rebate for loss of facilities. I wouldn't mind so much if it was somebody good but all we get is indie rubbish.
  12. Does anyone know whether the temporary pedestrian crossing lights in Crookes have any sort of counter attached to them so that they can tell how many times the button has been pressed? I saw somebody cross at the ones by the bus terminus yesterday for the first time since they've been put in. You would think there might be a way of telling how many people have crossed so that if the answer is hardly anybody, they could be moved somewhere else.
  13. Looking at the dashcam footage which was on the Daily Mail website (which gave a different view to that on the Sun's website), it looked to me as though the car carried on on the same trajectory, whereas Dan definitely seems to veer to his right somewhat and in doing so the car contacts his rear wheel. It would be interesting to hear the car driver's version rather than just Dan's.
  14. The signs for this have gone up but I'm not convinced by them. I drove up Abbeydale Road and London Road this morning and on Abbeydale Road there was a sign saying the zone was 3/4 mile away, and then towards the bottom of London Road, I'm sure there was another one that said it was 3 miles away, which would put it somewhere out by Meadowhall. Anybody else spotted this?
  15. That's Plank Gate presumably, which is up in the woods on the other side of the railway line.
  16. According to Google maps, Station Road at Deepcar continues as a path called the Upper Don Trail and eventually joins up with a footpath that goes along the access road for Holmes Farm at More Hall just above Wharncliffe Side. The Ordnance Survey map doesn't show a path there. Does anyone know if this path actually exists, and is it walkable? Or is it something that's planned for the future? The Upper Don Trail website makes no mention of it and doesn't have any sort of map, but then it seems to concentrate on the stretch between Oughtibridge and the middle of town. I know there's an obvious way to find out but I thought I'd ask here first.
  17. Are you sure about the spelling? Could he have been Brian Wallis for example?
  18. I've had a reply from Kerry Gooney and yes, she would definitely like those documents. If you PM me your e-mail address I'll pass it on to her. Incidentally I can't see any birth record for a Gooney with the mother's maiden name of Eyre.
  19. OK, I've done that. I'll let you know if she replies. The problem with messaging people on Facebook is that if you aren't already friends with them, the message goes into a separate area and the person receiving it gets no notification that they have a message. You have to view all message requests to find them. Very few people seem to know this, which in real terms makes it almost impossible to attract the attention of someone you aren't friends with.
  20. I assume the date of birth is a typo - he actually seems to have been born in 1921 (otherwise he'd have been 5 when he married Joyce Simpson). There is a family tree of this family on Ancestry run by someone called Kerry Gooney, who may be his daughter by his first wife. If this isn't someone you've tried contacting already, I could message them on there and see if they're interested.
  21. There used to be somebody at the Hunters Bar end of Sharrowvale Road but I'm pretty sure they're not there any longer. Somebody else might know if they still exist somewhere else though.
  22. Look North this evening reported that a man's been arrested in connection with this. And two arrested for the Arundel Gate stabbing as well. A fuller account here: https://www.southyorks.police.uk/find-out/news-and-appeals/2022/september-2022/dashcam-appeal-after-robberies-leave-special-constables-injured-in-sheffield/
  23. The report on Look North at lunchtime told us next to nothing. Either the police don't have much idea what happened, or if they do, they're not letting on. It did say though that the officer's injuries aren't life-threatening.
