And leaving the EU would somehow stop people entering the country if they wished us harm. I was referring to the attacks in Paris. Didn't some of those get into the EU though the med? Borders will be open if we leave. We won't be like Norway or any other country. We will have free trade with no conditions. Even the German CBI has said it would be madness for Germany to impose tariffs. The UK doesn't have open borders... We do to the EU. Please don't say we can stop criminals and the like because we don't. There's enough examples of this like the Latvian rapist who murdered a 15 year old girl in London a year or two ago. Isn't one aim of brexiters to stop immigration? I'm not sure they would want to sign up to freedom of movement, at least in principle. In practice they have to agree to something if they want some kind of access to the single market though? Nope I don't know anyone who wants to stop immigration. Not one. You may find some BNP type who may want to stop immigration who is voting Leave but they'd want that anyway. On the one hand you say you want a prosperous economy while on the other you say we will raise the drawbridge. It's a ludicrous standpoint. There is no reason for their lifestyle to change if "Out" wins so why would they choose to leave? Immigration is fluid. You can't just stop it. People go the other way too! It doesnt surprise me that the lower working class are taken in by the rhetoric of anti-immigration, more money for the NHS and all the other lies Johnson and co peddle. unbeliever Posted June 23, 2016 Share Posted June 23, 2016 Er, not exactly. There are some things that need to be done over multiple parliaments, and require political consensus. The building of new transport infrastructure, power infrastructure, warships, defence systems, ports, airports etc... etc... These are just a few examples and these are the relatively straightforward ones, although still prone to meddling and cancellation for political reasons. Our relationship with the EU and our trade relationship with the rest of the world is not something we should be leaving to the vagaries of extremely short-termist political parties. It would be a disaster. So. If there is a consensus amongst the people that it should be done, a consensus will naturally emerge in the main political parties.
