England lose another test match.

Kevin Pietersen was a divisive figure who often scored big runs when it didn't massively alter the context of the game, he is also desperately susceptible to left arm bowlers. He huffs and puffs on the boundary when fielding and texting the South Africans how to get Strauss out is absolutely unforgiveable

I'd also advocate giving Cook time. We saw Strauss go out to New Zealand horrifically out of form but he came back and had 4 or so years batting beautifully at the top of the order. We KNOW that Cook has the talent as a batsman and as a captain and we'd be mad to swing the axe without letting Moores and the new coaching staff work.

Now is a time for calm heads.

Watched the morning session with growing ...errr, not confidence, but belief in the English virtues. Stiff upper lips, chaps, backs to the wall, mark your target when it comes, get 'em in singles. Then Moeen loses his way on the stroke of lunch. Can't imagine what was said over the buffet table; but the post-prandial collapse has to be one of the worst I've seen...

Saying Cook has no talent as a captain is harsh in view of the deteriorating form of Prior, Trott, Swann, Finn et al. Anderson is is performing at a level where he can still play Test Cricket but slowly the signs of age are creeping up and next year I personally doubt he'll be as effective or pacey.

England need to drop anyone considered a stop gap and put a team in place who can go into the winter fully fit and ready to progress.

Cook does absolutely need to sort his form out ASAP but is there any wonder he's under pressure when so many key players have disappeared in the past 12 months..?

A lot of his key players have disappeared, sadly some are still being picked. It's taken something special to lose this match after winning the toss on a pitch that could be sportingly described as a meadow against an Indian team (also in transition) who have not won away since 2011.

England also have an assistant coach on crack. "We want him to carry on as our captain - he's a good man, a good captain and he's getting better with every game." Really Paul farbrace? Honestly? Are you watching some 2010 highlight reels because he isn't getting better and neither are the team - the bowling can't land the ball on the batsmans half of the track most of the time and our batters collapse at least, at least Paul, once a match. Look at today - short balls telegraphed and our lot obligingly chucked them down the Indians throat - on a fifth day lords pitch, not at the GABA with Johnson in full flow - just a lively fast medium Indian with a bad mullet. You have a captain who cannot buy a run which we need more than ever.

But we'll carry on and will be assured everyone is working hard and there is a great spirit in the dressing room. That's cobblers farbrace and you know it.
