Veritas   10 #6 Posted February 21, 2014 Is Flynn's the old Dog & Partridge?  You could say its The new Dog & Partridge or The Old Grapes  ---------- Post added 21-02-2014 at 16:50 ----------  You could add The Washington, Flynn's & Fagins to the list and knock off The Devonshire Cat.  I suppose The Lord Nelson (Fanny's) would also be deemed to be traditional
 Share this content via...
Tuffty   10 #7 Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) The Grapes is the obvious missing one!  Not sure why people mistakenly call it Flynn's, the pub has always been called The Grapes and retains the name in large letters across the front.  It might be to do with when the signs were repainted, previously they had Tetley's written across the top (the brewery that owned the pub prior to deregulation in the 80's)  As it is now a free house and owned by the landlady, Mrs Flynn, the sign writer replaced the old Tetley's branding with the word Flynn's, in keeping with the traditional style of the sign. The sign obviously also says The Grapes as well though, and depicts a massive bunch of grapes!  If you are still in any doubt, pop in for a pint and ask Mrs Flynn, she will tell you the same Edited February 23, 2014 by Tuffty
 Share this content via...
DaveG437 Â Â 10 #8 Posted February 23, 2014 The White Lion around where London Road turns into Chesterfield Road is a nice little traditional pub. Good booths.
 Share this content via...
jemson   10 #9 Posted February 23, 2014 I reckon it`s pretty accurate for the city centre. TBH, although we have pubs with great beer to compare with ANY city, we don`t have many beautiful old pubs like some places have. Really, only The Bath and The Tap make the grade aesthetically. Stoatwobbler   10 #11 Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) .....nor the Devonshire Cat..  Devonshire Cat definitly doesn't belong on a list of "traditional pubs". It may have it's plus points but I would not consider it a traditional pub.  To be honest, by keeping to the city centre this article misses out some of the best traditional pubs such as the Sheaf View.
