jsg103   10 #1 Posted December 15, 2013 Hello  I'm planning to go visit castleton next Saturday and wondering where to eat. I was thinking either the George or castle pub? Any recommendations?
 Share this content via...
muckymurphy   10 #2 Posted December 15, 2013 the cheshire cheese is not bad and the decorations at this time of year are good too. castleton tends to be crammed with people at this time of year and it can be hard getting round the tiny shops. taxman   12 #3 Posted December 15, 2013 The George Inn is really nice. They usually do mulled wine and mince pies at this time of the year as well.  I'd echo muckymurphy though, it does tend to get rammed at a weekend as everyone goes to see the lights. muckymurphy   10 #4 Posted December 15, 2013 i did mean the lights in the cheese, the outside lights are ok but the same every year, once you've been a couple of times it no longer appeals.
 Share this content via...
Uptowngirl   10 #5 Posted December 15, 2013 Hello I'm planning to go visit castleton next Saturday and wondering where to eat. I was thinking either the George or castle pub? Any recommendations?  The best dining experience by a mile in Castleton is the 1530 Bistro. It is directly opposite the Nags and serves proper food prepared from raw ingedients rather than pub grub made from frozen stuff in the freezer. The house wine is very good and surprisingly cheap for Castleton. But if you want good food that won't break the bank that would be my first choice. The pubs do offer OK food. But it is mainly pub food and no cheaper than the bistro. The only advantage of the pubs is they serve draught beer but it generally starts at around £3.30/pint and heads north from there. Blast   10 #6 Posted December 15, 2013 The Castle is OK when we've been. Pretty standard pub grub, but nice overall meal and atmosphere. Does tend to get really busy at the weekend though.
 Share this content via...
