megalithic
Been hearing this from around 2am, though it could have started earlier as i were watching a war film. Sounds like a mortar battle, or scrap being dropped from a great height. Thought it was the DVS being demolished, but aren't they taking it apart bit by bit to sell it on ? Last i knew they were still taking the seats out rather slowly, viewed daily from the tram. They decided to nuke it ? This isn't the usual drop hammer sound btw, i'm very used to hearing that. megalithic
Steel works Can i ask why you say that, as it's not a sound i'm used to hearing, and i've lived in Sheffield 43 years.
Tier
I hear it every night in Richmond, the only thing I could think of is the steelworks.

Tier
dunno then without hearing it myself, prob something else to do with steelworks but it wont be dvs demolition because its classed as construction you cant by law do it at that time of night,
Paddy
Maybe it was scrap metal thieves nicking stuff at Don Valley? All their birthdays and Christmases will have come at once!
Bethsmummy
Yep I live on Wincobank Hill have done all my life & I well know what Forgemasters sounds like. This "new" sound started one night last week. It sounds like hollow tubes (maybe) been dropped from a height over & over again. I posted on my FB asking if anyone knew what it was but got the obligatory steel works replies. If it Is the steel works it's not a sound I've heard from there before. I once heard a noise similar to what you describe early one Sunday morning and it turned out to be scaffolders several streets away.
