katz100 10 #1 Posted December 8, 2012 WEnt to see panto at lyceum last night (which was fantastic!). Returned to car after 3 and half hours and was charged a disgusting £11!!!!! WE parked under the odeon and never thought to check charges.... will do next time! Everyone in the queue was shocked by the extortionate amount. So if you are going be aware! Hal9001 11 #2 Posted December 8, 2012 The charges are shown before you get to the barrier to enter. You have the opportunity to leave. Some people must drive around with their eyes closed.
 Share this content via...
katz100 10 #3 Posted December 8, 2012 Well we didn't see them so can't be that clear and obviously lots of other people didn't. But if someone can learn from me driving around with my eyes closed then that's a bonus!
 Share this content via...
geared 321 #4 Posted December 8, 2012 To be fair to the poor bloke that is absolute robbery. I can understand, sometimes the charge board is put up 'in sight' of the barriers, so you actually have to get to them before you see the price. By the time you do you're concentrating on getting the ticket without scraping past the minimal gap to enter, you're not looking for the price board. Also if there's a que of cars behind you it's not like you can easily reverse out and go somewhere else. Thanks for the heads up, I'll remember to avoid that car park in future
 Share this content via...
willman 10 #5 Posted December 8, 2012 We have given the Lyceum a miss three times this year, partley as a consequence of the parking fees. I'm sure if we took the time to drive around we could find cheaper. There are large signs stating the price.
 Share this content via...
jb0077 10 #6 Posted December 8, 2012 I always park either in John Lewis or the cheese grater above Gentings Casino. Good cheep prices (and free if you use the casino - dont have to bet, cheap good quality meals and drinks).
 Share this content via...
Panthera Leo 10 #7 Posted December 8, 2012 This explains one thing...why they pay people to stand around in hi-vis with "event parking" signs making out they are the "official car park" for anything that might be happening - to "usher" (or "herd" if you will) people into the expensive option. Quite a good ruse because people feel more at ease following signs like that and drop their guard relieved that the "helpful chap with the sign" is helping them get to where they are going. Especially those travelling from out of town.
 Share this content via...
Resident 1,199 #8 Posted December 8, 2012 There are adequate public transport options, including park & ride facilities for the city centre. If you want to park in the centre then you pay the premium for it.
 Share this content via...

Not all car parks charge this, surely that's the point - "beware the NCP and use a cheaper alternative"
 Share this content via...

We went to the panto last night but only paid £2.70 in a car park opposite the cheesegrater If you do park in the cheesegrater you can get a discount card from the Lyceum reception.
