Anyone else irritated by the post office's special offer for Christmas?

Recommended Posts

I got a flyer through my door yesterday from the post office entitled "A Helping Hand".

This year those on benefits (pension credit, employment, support allowance, or incapacity benefit) can buy stamps for Christmas at 2011 prices (that's 46p for a first class or 36p for a second class stamp) You can buy up to 36 stamps at this price!

The price for the rest of us plebs is 50p and 60p respectively.

Now I know times are hard if your on benefits, but they're also hard if your not on benefits too! (like me).

I know it's not a huge amount of money, but it's the principle that irks me.

This September, I couldn't get on a nightschool recreational course because it was full of people who don't have to pay (on benefits), whereas I was prepared to pay.

I'm not sure, but they get free swimming, they get free dental treatment, plus a whole host of other benefits for free no doubt. (feel free to correct me on this element)

Life is damn hard even if you do go to work. It's just assumed that you can afford all of these things just because you work! Fortunately I don't earn a minimum wage, but I'm sure a lot of people do and it must be really hard for those (unless they claim some sort of benefit).

Any thoughts?

I think the unemployed should get everything free, god! it's hard enough for them as it is to go boozing every day and smoking their heads of on fags and weed, infact I think the goverment should give them extra for fags, booze, and weed, and us lot should just shurrup and go to work and pay our taxes. Remember this! it's criminal to go to work, and we all know crime doesn't pay.:hihi:

I understand what you're saying Pete, but by the same token (I don't agree with it also), bloody students get all sorts of offers thrown at them. Don't forget they also smoke, don't wash, get drunk, smell so stop all the offers for them like discounted bus fares & such.

Well I think it's jolly nice of them to try to make the experience of posting a letter a little bit more enjoyable!

I've recently sent them my own ideas on this here but they have not yet replied. :(

(neither has anyone else for that matter)

Ummm....I did read your natty little idea about musical postboxes, but unfortunately I couldn't think of a suitable reply. Why not just hum a song when you post a letter? Same effect! :hihi:

Yes, its bothered me. Not only for the cost of producing and sending all those leaflets, but subsidising sending christmas cards.

If you're that hard up to pay the difference between the subsidised rate and normal cost of stamps, wouldn't it be a good idea to abandon sending them altogether?

I'm not sure that applies to all students :suspect:...I could be wrong though! :hihi:

It's almost like someone who works get penalised for actually having a job! We pay full whack on council tax, full whack at the dentist, full whack for prescriptions...full whack for everything!

No I'm not irritated at all it's not as though it's nits we're talking about is it.

By the way I hope you tell anyone who sends you cards by discounted post how irritated their good wishes for the festive season made you.

I assume you won't be able to tell if full price was paid or not! They'll be the same stamps.

Nits?

I assume you're on benefits?
