Why Wednesday are the biggest team in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Really when was that?

Are you forgetting our youth side got to a final not so long ago.

If any Wednesday side got to a final last year I will stand corrected:)

Good acheivment but are you seriously comparing that to a f.a.cup final.

The author picked 2 'must win' games for Owls and Blades (Wycombe & Stevenage) in my opinion this was the fairest comparison he could have picked!

Errr...the 'must win' Stevenage game was the last home league game of the season live on Sky, with over 30k present...?

Against Stevenage, not on tv, the owls had 16185 through the gate on Valentines Day...

see, you can pick out all sorts of attendances to suit different arguments... :)

I congratulated your youth side at the time, however this thread is entitled 'Why Wednesday are the biggest team in Sheffield' and having terrific juniors and then selling them after a handful of first team games is not going to challenge the OP.

I was refering to the Stevenage play off game at £13 a ticket ;)

No I'm not for one minute just highlighting how you can manipulate facts.

It's down to an opinion but the op in my unbiased opinion was flawed.

The problem with most Wednesday posters regarding this thread is they are totally blinkered by last year.

Are Wednesday bigger no.

Have they had better support in some games yes.

Are they in a higher league yes.

Are they in a better financial position, debatable.

Do they have a more modern ground, no.

Do they have a better academy, no.

Have Wednesday in the last 10 years been more successful, no.

We can go round in circles all night but again the op was flawed.

I wouldnt really argue with any of that, but regarding the ops summing up of last season,i thought it was a fair report.

That would be the game when there was:

1) Considerable snow fall on the ground

2) Tuesday night

3) The same day as a traditional "couples" night

4) In the middle of Wednesdays worst run of the season

Cherry picking right back at yer :P

I think what us Blades are trying to say is the op was sexed up to make Wednesday look like some extra ordinary football club.

No one that posts on the Sheffield Football forum is unbiased.

Are Wednesday bigger? Of course they are.

They have a bigger ground.

What's the use of a good academy if you're dropping down the leagues?

Why cherry pick the last ten years? Our shared history goes back to 1889.

I can comment on Sheffield football and be unbiased.

My allegiance is obviously with United but I can hold a debate withouth blinkers.

Wednesday have a bigger ground true but do you go for quality or quantity?

So in my opinion the clubs are evenly balanced with both coming out on top in various areas.

The biggest difference is league placing but that doesn't make a bigger club just look at Wigan to see the flaw.

If the op wasn't as sexed up it wouldn't have gotten a reaction, in my opinion of course :)
