I thought CRB checks were just for working with people, not animals. As for insurance, the dog owners should have that. Good luck in your venture. Angel. Why don't you just buy your own dog? It'd be a lot less hassle. Seriously, you do not need a CRB check if you're clients are not children or vulnerable adults. denise2436
Good luck and well done for not just sitting at home on your computer The only reason I can think why someone has recommended you get a CRB check. is that it will show you have not got any convictions. This would be helpful to show potential customers if they need you to go into their homes while they are not in. Saying that. I'm not sure how old you have to be before you can request one of these. helenasq
Hi Molly, you do need a CRB check and insurance to be a dog walker as you have keys to peoples houses and it's to show you don't have a criminal record. I'm afraid I don't know what age you need to be to obtain these though. Maybe you could google the CRB age details and ring round a couple of insurance companies. Good luck in your venture
Petminder
im 15 and want to earn some money and i love animals so thought dog walking would be a good idea, people are saying i need a crb check and insurance, can i get this at my age and if so how? The question you should ask yourself is, would someone that doesn’t know you, trust you with their dog. Do you trust strangers because you also have to think of your own safety when visiting people that you don’t know? Having insurance and a CRB check isn’t a requirement for walking someone’s dog but they would help cover you if something went wrong and they are both defiantly good business practice. My advice would be to try and find someone you know that needs their dog walking but there are still some legal requirement when taking a dog into a public place. Animal Welfare Act 2006 Its sounds an easy job but it is a huge responsibility. Edited March 14, 2012 by Petminder
