Northern Rail

http://www.northernrail.org/

TRAIN services are expected to resume on two Northern Rail routes in Yorkshire tomorrow, Monday 6 December, after Northern and Network Rail teams worked hard over the weekend to re-open several lines.

The Huddersfield to Sheffield and Middlesbrough to Whitby lines are expected to re-open in time for services to run to the normal weekday timetable from Monday 6 December. The Bridlington to Scarborough line re-opened on Sunday 5 December.

However, the aftermath of the recent severe weather is continuing to affect a handful of routes and we will be unable to operate services on the following lines:

•Cleethorpes – Barton on Humber

•Doncaster - Adwick (services still running Doncaster - Leeds)

•Knottingley - Goole

•Morpeth – Chathill

Unfortunately, due to poor road conditions we will be unable to run any replacement bus services.

Northern hopes to reinstate its Sheffield to Lincoln service on Monday 6 December after making test runs on the line this evening.

Elsewhere, Northern services are operating as normal west of the Pennines, in Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cumbria.

Steve Butcher, chief operating officer for Northern, said: "Many people have worked extremely hard over the last few days to keep the vast majority of our train services running despite the very heavy snow and bitter cold.

"On some routes the depth of snow meant we could not run any services at all and it has taken a great team effort to get those lines cleared and ready for trains to run.

"There are a handful of routes where the snow and ice is still a problem and we are working hard to resume services for passengers in those areas as soon as we can."

Passengers are advised to check for up to date train running information, online via Northern’s Live Departures page, by phoning National Rail Enquiries' hotline on 0845 301 7641 or visiting http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ or http://www.northernrail.org/journey/planner
