Just guessing, but maybe it was an exploding drain caused by a build up of gasses.

I heard one once, the first bang was the drain exploding the second bang was the drain cover and a large part of the ground around it returning to Earth.

 

I was about half a mile away from the blast, but it was still loud enough to make me hit the ceiling.

presto tools may of collapsed, they already blow some supporting structure away just bare rebar holding some of it up.

Well arthur lees has disappeared so it must have been that. it sounded way off in the distance to me and yet lees is less than half a mile away.

We heard it here at wadsley bridge i shot up to see what it was but couldnt see owt anyone know yet what it was
