jimmymcnulty
There is no empirical evidence that hypnotherapy helps depression. Is there an qualified, reputable hypnotherapist in Sheffield who deals with depression? Thanks Edited March 11, 2013 by jimmymcnulty noticed it was a very old thread
Shef_Fitness
For my money, if your suffering from depression you need to deal with the root cause, if its something like being lonely, then the best thing you can do is join a group and meet others. Whatever you enjoy it could be walking, playing music, joining a dance class, joining a debating society etc......if you get out of the home, then thats an example of dealing with the root cause. There are things that are more complicated, I would imagine having very little money is the worst at this present time. YOu struggle to pay the bills, you have no money left over (or are sliding further into debt) so you can't get out because you can't afford to, so you become more isolated etc..... teeny
maybe try this lady , http://www.dianaluke.org/index.html she is lovely she will listen and help you make good choices for you. She also does counselling and has loads of qualifications , she is good I know a few people who have been helped by her and I myself have spoken with her, she really helped me make pretty tough choices through and tough period in my life , I can honestly say If i hadn't done this i wouldn't be the person I am today. jennyhenny
Another vote for Diana Luke , she has been very helpful to me in the past , with depression over my disabilities and the future. In my opinion you couldn't wish for a nicer therapist.

I remember her having a lovely voice, would make a great hypnotherapist.

Bludragonfly
Seen a counsellor and it did nothing. GP talked about hypnosis and she said she's knon patients to have good results from it. if the GP is recommending hypnotherapy i'd suggest that you ask her to refer you to a specialist on the NHS The NICE guidelines recommend Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for depression. NICE is the Government's service that makes recommendations / writes guidelines for Doctor's etc to follow about the most effective way to investigate / treat lots of conditions. You can find the NICE guidelines on Depression at http://publications.nice.org.uk/treating-depression-in-adults-ifp90 Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy but is different to counselling. It is available on the NHS - usually at your GP surgery. You can find out more about CBT at http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Cognitive-behavioural-therapy/Pages/Introduction.aspx CBT is free on the NHS but if you want to go elsewhere and pay a friend was treated by Maria at http://www.collinsdonnelly.co.uk/page.php?domain_name=collinsdonnelly.co.uk&viewpage=Profile There's even online versions of CBT that are recommended by NICE - you can find more details about this and the other services available in Sheffield at http://www.sheffieldiapt.shsc.nhs.uk/home I know it isn't hypnotherapy but hope this is helpful
