What have you seen so far at the cinema in 2009?

Recommended Posts

As the title states:

What have you seen so far at the cinema?

What did you think?

My favourites in bold.

Slumdog Millionaire - excellent

Bride Wars - I fell asleep, says it all.

Nick and Norah's ultimate playlist - ok

Bolt 2D - Good kids film

Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Fincher. Need I say anymore.

He's just not that into you - Actually quite good.

Seven Pounds - Good film.

Confessions of a shopaholic - Again good chick flick.

Role Models - Reasonably funny.

Gran Turino - Liked this a lot.

Marley and Me - Made me cry.

The International - Boring and lots of plot holes.

The knowing - Farcical.

Monsters Vs Aliens - Yeah ok.

Duplicity- Not as good as i expected.

The Boat that rocked Good music.

17 again - I liked this. Gave me a Zac crush.

I love you man - Ok but story told in first ten mins.

In the loop - Very funny

Wolverine - X men origins- Surprisingly good.

The ghosts of girlfriends past - Dreadful. Why can't MM make a decent film?

Is anybody there? - Recommend you watch this. V good.

Coraline - Jeepers creepers for kids.

Star Trek - Good.

Angels and Demons. - Very se7enesque. I liked it but I haven't read the book.

Adding to my list

Syncdoche, New York - Really didn't get this film. It made my brain hurt.

Night at the museum 2 - Easy watching

Terminator Salvation - Lack of jokes in it and not as good as T2 but it couldn't be.

Last Chance Harvey - Simple, easy to watch instantly forgettable.

Looking for Eric - Loads better than i thought. Really enjoyed this loads!

The Hangover - Funny.

12 Rounds -Like every 90's action film piled into 1 on a budget, think Speed, Blown away, Die hard.

I lose track of what I've seen this year, and what was towards the end of last year (went to a few film presentation days last year and saw films not out until this year...very confusing). So this list may not be complete...

Boat That Rocked - Average when first watched, but grew on me.

Coraline 3D - marvellous animation and Neil Gaiman story = superb

Crank: High Voltage - mindless rubbish...but bizarrely fun :)

Doubt - powerful drama...recommended

Gran Torino - not the best Clint film, and not the best film this year so far, but a damn fine film nontheless

I Love You Man - much better than expected.

Marley and Me - much worse than anticipated

Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist - Turgid!

Paul Blart Mall Cop - Less than turgid!

Religulous - really amusing documentary about religion. Loved it.

Role Models - Not bad.

Seven Pounds - Great film...had me crying.

Slumdog Millionaire - A bit contrived, but still another great film from Danny Boyle

Star Trek - Absolutely brilliant reboot which added 'fun' back to the franchise.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - Pretty much as you would expect from these films.

Valkyrie - Much better than the anti-Cruise brigade would have you think.

Watchmen - Staggeringly adapted from the comic. Loved it!

Wolverine - A good first 15 minutes descends into nonsense. A 'Pot Noodle' film (you kind of enjoy it whist you have it, but afterwards wish you had a cheese toastie instead)

I'm deliberately not wasting my time this year on films that I really cannot be bothered with, and will await a DVD rental for those ones. This means that Angels & Demons, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Confessions of a Shopaholic, He's Just Not Into You, etc were deliberately missed out (as will be Terminator Salvation and Trashformers 2 - hated T3, hated Trashformers, ain't wasting my time on sequels that look even worse from the trailers)

I'm ashamed to say that I've only watched 3 films at the cinema so far this year, and they were:

Watchmen - I'd read the graphic novel over Christmas so was full of anticipation for the adaptation. It didn't let me down. Great casting too.

Wolverine - Quite enjoyable. Left me with quite a lot of questions though which I always find is a good thing after seeing a film.

Terminator Salvation - pretty good action flick. Storyline was interesting and I liked Christian Bale in the role of John Connor. However, it was bizarre that one of the characters had really great teeth, which you wouldn't really expect in a post apocalyptic world.

I have seen Juno and Happy Feet recently on DVD. Can I include them?

Juno - surprisingly good!

Happy Feet - errrr......

In order of preference:

Star Trek - great movie, but appaling script.

Slumdog Millionaire - excellent movie with lots of shocks and twists and turns.

Wolverine - surprisingly good action adventure.

Terminator salvation - even surprisinglier good action adventure.

Confessions of a Shopaholic - unexpectedly brilliant.

Last House on the Left - Far superior to the original and a decent thriller (let down by the last 120 seconds).

Bolt - heart warming cartoon capers.

He's just not That into You - predictable romantic comedy.

Role Models - great. Very funny.

Drag me to hell - hugely overhyped.

Watchmen - zzzzzzzzzfest.

Worst of the Worst

Underworld 3 - vampire vomit inducing.
