Who owns the car park in Hillsborough Park?

Recommended Posts

Just another sign of how commercialism affects people who do not want to be part of the event, but have to change their daily routines in life because of it

It's going to be interesting how they are going to deal with the 2018 bid, and how much money is going to have to be spent to stage it, if they use Hillsborough Football Club as a venue.

The car parking facilities around the ground are not good enough now, to cope with just Match Days, and usually spill into the surrounding estates, with major parking offences being broken, with which a blind eye is turned to.

How will this affect the car park, in Hillsborough park then, and for how long?

Where are the plans now to show of how they are going to deal with it, or are these just going to be an after thought?

Are they going to consult with the Man or Woman in the street for there views to ensure that they get it right. I don't think so!

I agree with someone on here though, there should be a sign in Hillborough Park, stating what the agreement between the football club, and the council as regards the Car Park.

aaah yet another sad deluded blunt who doesn't know the facts....

FACT is - and one of the reasons 'BDTBL' wasn't picked - is that ALL supporters going to games in the 2018 WC, except for the VVIP's, have to be able to travel there by foot OR public transport. There will be NO provisions for private cars at these games.

OK?

On topic - the car park on Parkside Road is very underused most of the time - if SWFC have paid for improvements either to it or the park/roads in general, then I think its reasonable that its used for match day parking. If it wasn't, the congestion around the residential areas would be even worse than usual.

Except when I was growing up, that bottom bit was park, not car park. It was turned into car park for the football, which doesn't seem fair. The park was given to the people of Hillsborough as a gift, claimed by Sheffield City Council as their own, and then practically given away to a private company - one that only a proportion of the people of Hillsborough are interested in...

PS.... Hullo there, long time no see and all that... :) x

I thought SWFC got the car park and supplied the tennis and basketball courts as payment.

SWFC paid for the community facilities for use of the carpark for about three hours 20 odd days a year of that.

And the club paid for the carpark to be fully surfaced.

It was awful before.

Its not like this hasnt occured for the past decade at least.

SWFC have always had an arrangement with the council as far as i can remember.

Thats why its suprising these threads keep appearing from time to time.

a family member works at SWFC and they bought/leased the bottom bit from the council and turned it into a car park for use by them. that is why it is permit holders only on match days. SWFC now own the car park and thus take priority over any other events such as fairs/circus etc.

Yes Sheffield Wednesday do own the car park and part of the condition is that it can be used by the public on non Matchdays. Payment for this was by way of building the Tennis and Basketball Courts.

SWFC also own quite a bit of land on Penistone Road, including quite a few of the houses on that side of the road.
