Ghozer   113 #1 Posted January 29, 2008 Anyone heard about these? I have been watching and tracking for about a month now, and I have to say its quite interesting/exciting/scary at the same time..  Incase you don't know what im talking about, let me break it down.  over the next 2 days (29th, and 30th Jan) there will be 2 asteroids that will pass in close proximity, one will be passing VERY close to us (TU24) and the other close to Mars (WD5)  TU24 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_TU24 & http://www.tu24.org TU24 was discovered in October 2007, and is predicted to pass within 537,500 Km of us, this is close enough to pose a risk of Electromagnetic interference, and other phenomenon (see http://www.tu24.org for more info) (Orbit Simulation: http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2007%20TU24;orb=1 ) (For simulation, Center on earth, zoom right in, and step the days to the 29th using the >| button.   WD5 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_WD5 / http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/2007wd5/ WD5 was discovered in November, 2007, and will be passing close by Mars on the 20th Jan. (has already passed by us at 7.5 million km) when it was first discovered, it had an estimated 1 in 25 chance of colliding with Mars, which has now been dropped to around 1 in 10,000, however it could still cause magnetic and ionic interference on mars, which could provide us with a very nice light show. (Simulation http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2007%20WD5&orb=1) (For simulation, Center on Mars, zoom right in, and step the days to the 30th using the >| button.
