Earl of wharncliffe

.does anyone know what happened to the wharncliffe estate.

seem to remember the earl had two daughters one who died in a car accident years ago. also that he died in an accident years ago. ring any bells

Was the title at least inherited by a man in Australia? I seem to remember something about it at the time. Not sure about the actual estate itself.

it must be nearly 20 years ago... I seem to think Ruby has hit the nail on the head, with the inheritance of the title, at least.

Alan James Montagu-Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie, who was the 4th Earl of Wharncliffe, died in 1987 (B 1935), so I wasn't far out in saying 20 years. (even if I'd underestimated it)

and according to Wiki, the line failed with him, and the title passed to Richard Alan Montagu Stuart Wortley, 5th Earl of Wharncliffe (b1953)

The Heir Apparent is the present holder's eldest son, Reed Montagu-Stuart-Wortley, Viscount Carlton (b. 1980)

But, does he still live in Oz, and did he get the estate too? I've googled but couldn't find much of relevance, just what we already know.

When the old earl died I remember reading in The Star that the 5th Earl of Wharncliffe lived in America.

i have goggled and found out there is a 5th earl.also found out wortley hall is a conference centre. if the 4th earl died ssome years ago where would his widow go.believe her name was aline

They vacated Wortley Hall many many years ago - 1940's I think. The late Earl and his Countess lived in Carlton House, in Wortley.

I vaguely remember the Earl racing around in his car like a madman in the 70s... didnt he get into trouble a few times for dangerous driving and drink driving?

What's wrong with that Jabberwocky? When you're an Earl that's what you do. Personally I think he should've done time for playing? drums.
