  1. Try the BBC website. They are good at providing information about road closures, such as the A57 Snake pass or the A628 Woodhead pass.
  2. Another do-gooder I assume, one of the reasons why kids today have no respect. I was brought up with respect and disciplined accordingly, including getting a pasting for being naught. Never did me, or my kids any harm. And people wonder why we're in such a mess today. Even the schools are fearful of kids these days!
  3. Use this link for the buses and trams. An inch of snow and the city has ground to a halt. Typical! http://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/disruptions.aspx?id=3208
  4. Its mainly all cleared now here in Hackenthorpe. Plenty of ice about though, at least the gritters have done their job on the main roads. Just a shame many can't get out of their small estate roads. What ever happened to all those yellow grit bins that the council used to provide?

  6. Should add, I am wanting to know the situation regarding the 120 bus service in Sheffield and if that will be running normally or not (Stagecoach, not First).
  7. Caught something on the news this lunchtime about a bus strike taking place on the 18th, 21st November and the 2nd, 3rd December 2011 involving Stagecoach. What I heard was Rotherham and Barnsley, though not sure if this is the full story or if I missed the first part of the news broadcast. Just had a look online and can't find anything using Google. Anybody know anything?
  8. Anyone happen to know if the big bonfire and fireworks display from about 6pm this evening is free entry as in previous years at Clifton Park? Obviously the large funfair wont be free, but just wondering if they are asking for money on entry, like with the rip-off After Dark event at Don Valley Bowl that was on last night? Thanks.
  9. Yes, the 273, 274 and 275. It depends on where abouts you are wanting at Ladybower however, as looking at the map the 273 goes a different way to the 274 and 275 routes. Map: http://www.sy-transport.co.uk/maps.htm
  10. Couldn't agree more, or even so why not have just kept the old 40, 41 and 120 services as they were?
  11. There are plenty available on Google, however I like this one as it shows them all on one page, so you can just scroll through them all. Also has another link to the motorway traffic cameras throughout South Yorkshire. Traffic Camera link: http://www.sy-transport.co.uk/traffic/sheffield.htm
  12. Isn't it all the truck drivers that keep the various main businesses in Attercliffe open, you know the grubby cafes, brothels, saunas, sex shops etc. On a more serious note, how can they honestly be contemplating banning HGVs through Attercliffe, which has always been and always will be an industrial area and a major thoroughfare between Sheffield and Rotherham?
  13. Just as a reminder for people, this starts this weekend. Thanks for the extra info Andy.
  14. Thank you for your swift response. Not been up to the new ASDA and rarely travel to that end of town. It's mainly for my partner, who is getting fed up of venturing over to Rotherham from Hackenthorpe just to visit the cheapest petrol station. Still every penny counts when its 128.9p a litre, as opposed to anything from 130.9p + in Sheffield. Makes it worth while when topping up the car.
  15. It is also the same old boring recycled shops. I am starting to like Rotherham again, they are sprucing up the town centre, and all new local independant shops are taking up residence, with the major high-street retailers that you see all over the UK moving to either Meadowhall and/or Parkgate. Sheffield city centre is just awful at the moment, and it makes me discusted to think I am from and still live in Sheffield, when you go into town, especially down by Castle Market or even The Moor. It's only really Fargate that is decent and most of the shops on there are crap anyway! Doncaster is pretty good for shopping and is probably the best location around here, closely followed by Huddersfield.
  16. Does anyone know if the new ASDA at Parson Cross has a petrol station, or do we still have to venture over to Rotherham for the nearest ASDA Petrol Station? Thanks.
  17. It would appear after reading the same site, that it mentions cross-operator ticketing is to be available from next Sunday. This means a FirstWeek Sheffield priced at £17.50 can now be used on the Stagecoach 120 and vice-versa. It was also mentioned this was available for all services on Optio Orange, so if you have a Stagecoach pass, you can now use it to Birley on the 44, rather than just using the tram. At last, a step in the right direction! Still a long way to go yet though. Next step - bring back the 41!
  18. Be warned, they (SYPTE and Sheffield Council) are about to launch another pathetic Optio scheme, this time on the 52. From information that has been posted elsewhere, the 52 will become the next Optio scheme, along with the introduction of a new half-hourly nightbus service - the N52 between Woodhouse and Hillsborough. It seems they just can't leave the buses alone and have not learned their lesson since they messed up the Manor Top services back in July!!! To save typing out what has been posted elsewhere, I'll re-post it here: "Service provision will essentially be the same as the Orange Optio; 4 minute service Monday - Friday, 5 minute service Saturday and 10 minute Sunday daytime service between the two operators. With tickets now being interchangeable there is no need for Stagecoach to run a early morning Sunday service - hence no service before 7am from Woodhouse and 8am from Hillsborough. First will provide a 20 minute service at these times." And also more information posted on fares. "A bit more detail on Optio Red for the 52. £3 Optio Red - All day saver for use on both 52 services for the day of purchase. £9 Optio Red - All week saver for use on both 52 service for the week of purchase. Now here is the good news, from what I have been told/informed - Sheffield wide BUS ONLY day and weekly tickets will be valid for use on both 52 services. That means you could have a Stagecoach £3.20 DayRider and use this ticket on the First 52 service and vice-versa. This is the last that I heard on the scheme as of yesterday at work." 19. Thanks very much for that, that is just what I was after one which included both First and Stagecoach services into one map. Is this available to purchase by any chance, or can it only be viewed online? Excellent find and thanks for posting.
  20. Hi all, I have been scowering the net' for the last few hours now and so far sadly to no avail have I been able to find a map that includes ALL bus operators in South Yorkshire on one map. Does anyone know if one exists? I have been looking on a site call SY Transport though they only have maps that are like those for the London Tube, I am after a geographic map. I am pretty sure SYPTE used to produce one a couple of years ago, but don't seem to be able to find a recent one and that is even if they still produce them. Any help will be greatly apprechiated as it is actually for my mother who is wanting to go out to the various towns around South Yorkshire and the Peak District to go shopping at different locations etc and basically wants to know how to get there. Don't care if the map is in electronic or paper based form, just so long as there is a map available. Anyone know of anywhere to look? I have phoned Traveline though they are unable to help. So over to you good lot on SF, lol.
  21. Ring Traveline on 01709 515151, they are usually very helpful at providing out info about roadworks, service diversions and changes. It seems there has been a distinct lack of communication in place with these roadworks.
  22. Just read elsewhere that the 123 is now going to be extended from Endcliffe Student Village to the Westminster Estate in Fulwood from next month. Positive step forward agreed, though no First service still through to Halfway, Westfield or Waterthorpe from town. How long before they realise what a flop this has been and bring back the 41. The sooner the better! Here is what was said about the Stagecoach 123 service - Passengers are celebrating after bus bosses announced plans to reinstate services to a Sheffield neighbourhood following protests. Almost 600 people from the Westminster Estate in Lodge Moor signed a petition against changes to services under the Optio Orange scheme, in which First and Stagecoach have agreed to share routes and fares between Halfway and Fulwood. Under new timetables, launched on July 24, 120 journeys to Hallam Grange Road and the Westminster Estate were scrapped, with the service terminating on Barncliffe Road, Fulwood. It left residents with a steep walk up or down hill to catch the 120 or the 51 from Redmires Road. Now Stagecoach is asking for permission to extend its 123 service, which currently operates half-hourly between Crystal Peaks, the city centre and Endcliffe, to run into Fulwood to the Westminster Estate, from September 5. 23. Already complained to SYPTE and have heard nothing. But why would they when it is their doing and their scheme in the all. Has no one noticed how many 120s are now running together, saw 6 in a row yesterday evening on City Road alone. Would have never had that with the 41 or the old 120 before SYPTE decised to pi*s about with the route and times. A complete and utter joke. Still, they will not stop pi*sing about with the bus services and times until they reach their goal, to run the bus services in Sheffield and South Yorkshire again and fund this no doubt through increases in our council tax as occurrs down in London!
