  1. Hi - I have a spare PP number, I can't run on the new date. If you would like it pls PM me...
  2. I've been in the Greystones a few times since it opened and it's been busy with a great atmosphere each time - the music isn't really intrusive 'cos it's in the other half of the pub. Good job too, I thought someone had fallen into the piano but apparently it was jazz night. I'm def going to do my bit to support a local business by drinking many pints in there. I like the green paint too, can any paint geeks tell me what shades they are, my attic needs painting.
  3. If anyone is new to running and wants a bit of practice before the 101010 there is a weekly 5k that starts near the cafe in Endcliffe Park at 9am - it would be really good practice to build up your confidence before doing a whole 10k. I went along to it this week and I'd recommend it, it's just for fun and there were runners of all abilities. If you Google Parkrun Sheffield Hallam you should be able to find the details.
  4. I like Otto's on Sharrow Vale Road, the food is Moroccan (I think), cous cous, tagines - fish meat and veg, and it's lovely home made food (and the ginger cheescake is amazing). It's reasonably priced too. I would agree that the article is a bit lazy, I wonder how they chose the top 10? Would have been better to ask a few local people for some less obvious ideas maybe?
  5. Thank you that's brilliant, I will definitely go along to one of them!
  6. Hi - I'm looking for an informal choir or singing group to join, preferably somewhere in S11/S7, can anyone recommend one? Thanks!!
  7. Hi - It sounds like you might have picked some quite tricky plants to grow for your first seeds! If you would like some easy ones to try, how about herbs like chives, parsley, and coriander? They are very easy to grow and you can use them when you are cooking? You could try mixed salad leaves too, they are v easy to grow, and within a few weeks you can eat them. Good luck, have fun
  8. Brilliant - I went to Millhouse animal sanctuary and took a nice dog out for a walk up Porter Clough. It was too hot to run, but I think he enjoyed jumping in the stream etc, I'll def take him out again
  9. Hi, thanks for your messages. I would definitely be interested in taking a rescue dog out for a run - unfortunately Rotherham is too far for me to travel, but I will ask in Sheffield and see whether they need dog walkers too x
  10. Does anyone know a dog that would like a bit more exercise? I am a runner and although I can't own my own dog I would love to take a dog out running with me. I normally run for 1 hour in the Endclffe/Porter Valley area. The dog would have to enjoy it obviously, have the right temperament (not likely to bite runners/walkers/other animals!), and be fit enough to run for an hour, although I would be able to build up his fitness if he needed it. Please PM me or reply to this thread if you might be interested. Thanks!
  11. Hi I was wondereing whether anyone could recommend somewhere to go for women's boxing training? About 5 years ago I got my first belt in kickboxing, but stopped training when I moved to Sheff. I've had boxing training with a PT a couple of years ago, but would like to take it up again. I don't really want 'boxercise', I'd like to get my fitness back and then maybe progress to sparring etc and learning proper boxing technique. Are there many women boxers in Sheff and where would you go to train? Thanks!!!
  12. It's a good idea, I'm just not sure that the people that need it would recognise that they need it!! It depends what you mean by home stylist - you might find that the kind of people that appreciate a stylish home etc will already have homes that look good. Otherwise wouldn't it just be a 'tidying up' service to make the house look presentable for viewings? What kind of price would you charge for it? Could you get estate agents to recommend you if it really did help the house sell faster?
  13. Hiya - I have recently had a new bathroom designed and fitted and would def recommend Rowland Property Services (Andy Rowland). It was a complete re-design and rebuild, including stripping the whole bathroom right back to the bricks. Andy dealt with all the issues that naturally arise when you are doing work on an old house and didn't make it feel like a problem for us. He's also very considerate about keeping the rest of the house clean and tidy so the whole place wasn't trashed while the work was going on! The finished bathroom is so lovely it feels like a showroom, and we were very happy with the quality of the work. I know it's hard to find a good builder that you can trust so I thought it was worth posting the recommendation for other forum users... http://www.rowlandpropertyservices.co.uk
  14. I've only been there at lunch time but the food has always been really good and no problem at all with the service. I'd def like to try it in the evening. I think they used to do themed evenings and wine tasting, does anyone know if they still do it I reckon it would be worth a try.
  15. Hi - I am looking for a place swap too, and will reimburse you for the entrance fee. Please PM me if you have a spare place! Thanks!!
  16. Have you tried Otto's on Sharrow Vale Road? It used to be San Lorenzo (I think), but it's got new owners. They do lovely Morrocan/Turkish food, it's all fresh vegs, herbs and spices. The people that own it are really friendly, and they have an offer on at the moment £14.99 for 2 courses and a glass of wine. We had Lamb Tagine with veg, and sea bass. The deserts are good too, the ginger cheesecake is fantastic We will def go back, I'm planning to take the in-laws it's that good!
  17. Wow what a feisty little forum this is, told off on three accounts on my first post... You are right, I don't drink wine so would never expect to add £40 to my bill for it, so £80 including wine is great value and much better than those cheap and nasty other places, yes. You are also right, knocking brand new restaurants in Sheffield is a shame and shame on me. I support all my local independent businesses, but personally I would more strongly support: The Walnut Club - excellent food and at £5-10-5 excellent value too. For cheap and cheerful, La Terrazza, great atmosphere and good quality basic Italian food at v reasonable prices. And for great food in the day time you can't beat Abuelo which is good value, great surroundings (except the dodgy fake exterior) and lovely fresh healthy food. But I also don't support Nonnas - not as good as it thinks it is, Mish Mash - overpriced, and the pasta bar(?) (Sharrow Vale Rd) - the food was stale...twice. My opinon, but you can go where YOU like. Ps - Born and bred and living on ECCY ROAD, proud of ECCY RD, and too lazy to type ECCKLESHALL, theree's faar too maany lettters in itttt..... x:hihi:
  18. Ha ha, protesting too much BTD? Just because you spent £80 on a meal for two? I'd say that's pretty bloody expensive for Eccy Rd? Anyway, I went to LBPiere a couple of weeks after it opened and I'd say it was pretty bland. The waitresses were nice and friendly enough, nothing against them, but the menu says 'locally sourced food' - French... in Sheff? Hmmm... ours were just about edible but def microwave not fresh. Not cheap either, just average all round. Wouldn't go again.
