  1. I'm going there now to get a few things, its nearly always empty at this time and hence is almost bearable. I once had a row with the manager, because they got upset that I was packing my bags at the checkout, when In fact I had one very large square bag inside the trolley that I was dropping the things into, apparently its not allowed. Even though it is not slowing anything down at all, in fact its just the same as if I was dropping them into the trolley. I didn't go there for a couple of years after that.
  2. Yes they sell a loaf of Warburton's bread for £1. in Sainsburys its £1.45 Just an example, its worth going there because its cheaper, but you have to expect that its full of pensioners, that there's hardly any staff.
  3. Yes you have to pick your time to visit Aldi, Best is usually late on or around 6pm on a Saturday. otherwise its like a jumble sale full of drug crazed zombie pensioners. And yes watch the veg, sometimes they have rotten stuff on show. its not all bad though, some of their products are good.
  4. Thanks for the recommendation, Is a great guy and a first class job.
  5. You can't - it is locked in to the Apple store
  6. See the story in the Star, Published on 06/05/2013 08:19 Six youngsters did not get a place at a Sheffield primary school despite them living in the catchment area, an angry mum has claimed. The parent also said four youngsters turned down from Meersbrook Bank Primary’s reception class had attended its pre-school in preparation. She said Sheffield Council and the school had not informed families of the potential for over-subscription due to a rising population. Extra provision has been made at nearby Carfield and Mundella schools. The mum, who did not want to be named, said: “People are very cross. “If you are given accurate information you can make the right choice but it feels like the community hasn’t been respected or consulted at all. “Some of the children who didn’t get a place live within 300 metres of the school. “We also have another child and there is no guarantee she would get in to the same school now. “By following the system to the letter we might end up with children in different schools. “It feels like nobody is taking responsibility.” Sheffield Council said last month that 97 per cent of pupils had been given one of three preference schools. Council spokeswoman Alena Prentice, assistant director for inclusion and learning services, said there had been ‘widespread’ consultation work with Meersbrook Bank parents, including a workshop for parents of pre-school children after the decision was made to add extra places elsewhere. Meersbrook Bank could not be expanded to take more children due to physical restrictions, she said. “Although our aim is to place children at local catchment schools, we can never guarantee places. We are constantly monitoring and responding to these demands.” If they cannot find a place for pupils living 300 yds away, who exactly have they given places to ? can they be sure nobody is playing the system and putting the address of a relative living nearby to gain a place ? Have the council attempted some kind of social engineering, giving places to children from different communities ? We need to know what is happening here.
  7. I just had my renewal from Aviva, they wanted £400 ! so after a bit of shopping around I got it for £240.00 with Royal Sun Alliance, meaning i've got £160 left in my pocket ! You really have to check every year, the existing insurers always jack up the premiums, and most people accept it. When I called Aviva to cancel they magically knocked £ 80 off their quote, but I still saved another £80 £160 / Per Hour is a fantastic rate of pay. and It took me less than one hour to save this !
  8. I can't trust Kwik Fit to do anything properly . . . . . . they will just be looking for unneccesary work to do on the car. its the worst place ever. I'd rather not go there, looking for a nice friendly local place
  9. Got mine delivered from Stoves Are US in Huddersfield. Its an AGA, was about £ 500. Has been great these last two cold winters
  10. Who can reccomend a garage to regas the aircon in my 2008 Mondeo ? at a good price, not the £100.00 plus they want at the main dealer..
  11. The council are a bunch of buffoons and they are making a politiclal point by harming services. Yes every council has to stop flushing millions down the toilet, squandering money on wasteful inefficient schemes, and generally feathering their own nests. But closing Libraries is not the best way to acheive savings, it is just a cheap political stunt.
  12. Big Book protest - tomorrow (Saturday 23rd March) at 12pm outside Sheffield Central Library. Tell the government and the council why they've lost the plot, why you want libraries to stay open and run by paid, professional staff. Tell us why libraries mean so much to you... A peaceful family-friendly protest against cuts to library services in Sheffield. Let's make sure the story of Sheffield's Libraries has a happy ending. Please forward this to anyone who might be interested!
  13. Driver was probably texting and driving, I've seen this so many times now where people just can't leave their phones alone for two minutes. Its becoming a huge problem and a major cause of accidents in America too.
  14. Yes M1 & A1 is the best and simplest way, however if you're not in a hurry, have a decent car and the weather is good, there is a beautiful run along the A 68 from J 58 of the A1 towards Bishop Auckland, I say a decent car as there are a lot of steep hills and if you get stuck behind slow traffic you'll need at least 100 BHP / tonne to get past safely as there are not so many opportunities to overtake it could be heaven or hell depending on the conditions.
  15. In My opinion, the Labour council are doing this purely as a political stunt, surely sponsors could be brought in, more events organised, concerts etc that would bring in the needed revenue. No, without even trying, an before its even been paid for, this council just decide its to be bulldozed out of existence, to make a cheap political point about funding cuts.
  16. have the police caught anybody for these break ins yet ?
  17. I'd rather keep the doors and windows locked and not risk becoming another victim of this vile scrote . . . CCTV might be the way forward, a little camera in the passageway keeping an eye on things.
  18. Boots / D&A are Excellent in my experience, I get my contact lenses there as well as glasses and I really have only ever had great service from them.
  19. The important difference here is that the person in Specsavers has a very strong incentive to diagnose a sight problem and prescribe glasses, than an independant optician in a clinic. Hence the ridiculous situation that glasses get prescribed to small children who end up dependent on them for the rest of their life, when in all probability they never ever needed them.
  20. I once bought some food from this place and it was absolutely the worst rubbish I ever had. Here's another reason to avoid it. http://ratings.food.gov.uk/business/en-GB/437613?bn=china+house&ba=sheffield&sm=1&st=1&pi=0&sc=http%3a%2f%2fratings.food.gov.uk%2fsearch%2fen-GB
  21. Under the 1984 road traffic act, local councils have the powers to enforce parking restrictions, for a number of specified reasons. These are to ease the flow of traffic; ensure the safety of of drivers and pedestrians; and preserve or improve the area through which a road runs. What they are not allowed to do - and this has been reaffirmed by the courts and restated in goverment guidance - is use parking as a fiscal measure to raise revenue. So how can this measure be allowed ?
  22. Polski, I wholeheartedly agree, we need some facts here and not the rubbish that Planner1 is spouting all the time. Please Planner1 Keep away from this thread.
  23. Oh Jeez, Planner1 No wonder nothing useful gets done in the council offices if you're spouting your nonsense like the above on here all day. I tend to agree with number 6 - you have no clue. In Chesterfield, not 6 miles away they have change giving machines. I despair
  24. Has anyone got a parking ticket, or penalty notice whilst parked at Millhouses ? I have not been down there so much recently, I've not see the council parking wardens or vehicles on site at all.
