  1. The worst thing is that the Sheffield jamcams are jammed! SY Travel's website has not been updated for 2 hours - at least if the buses came back on they would keep things moving. I think we'll have to sledge down Lydgate on our suitcases... Oh happy holidays .... Ashanta
  2. Hi HP Which bit of Lydgate was it? (Sorry to be pedantic but the thought of lugging my cases down to the Grindstone doesn't appeal much!). I guess if we make it down to Broomhill, everything will be ok... Ashanta
  3. Hi Yep, unfortunately! We're hoping to get to E M airport for an early flight. Please, no more snow!!!
  4. Hi Have to go out tonight and just wondered if anyone has been on Lydgate Lane/Crookes. Is it clear/gritted? Cheers
  5. Hi Thanks!. Fingers crossed ... forecast says one more snowfall around 9 then clearing by early hours. We may just miss it. Cheers...
  6. Hi there, I'm getting worried as we are travelling to East Midlands Airport in the early hours and the snow doesn't look like stopping. I don't understand how the M1 gets like this. Don't they grit it, clear it?? Did you come along Sheffield Parkway/City Centre? How is it?
  7. Hi again Yes, he was young, stocky and wearing a grey/blue jacket. I do feel sorry for people doing this job but he was rude and cocky and talked to me in a very patronising way. I only listened to him out of respect. His attitude certainly won't win him any customers! I just wondered where he was from so I remember not to use them. thanks Ashanta
  8. Hi, just wondered if anyone has a cold caller re: energy supplier tonight? I didn't get the name of the company - he waffled on for so long that I forgot it! He was quite arrogant and when I finally got a word in edgeways and told him I wasn't interested he looked miffed, said "No problem", walked off into the fog (poor lamb) and didn't say thanks, goodnight or anything. He slagged off British Gas for being supplied via France and without even bothering to look up said "Do me a favour love (yeuch!) show me a B Gas bill and I'll show you how they're ripping you off". Yes, I know that all energy suppliers rip us off but this guy was so arrogant I'd just like to know where he's from - if he's legit etc. I was polite to him, listened to his speil and let the freezing cold air into my kitchen (I was cooking a stir fry). I think he said he was from Yorkshire something or other. Anyone else received a visit?
  9. No, I would have gone earlier - it takes longer on the bus. No, I didn't complain that's why I'm letting off steam here. Firstly, even though the cab was smelly and early, I wouldn't want the guy to get a rollicking or even lose his job. As you say jobs are up for bidding. I think it boils down to an inexperienced employee in reception not using her initiative and a personal hygiene problem, nothing more. I won't book them again though.
  10. A few weeks ago I decided to get a taxi for an important interview. It was a grotty day and I didn't want to risk the bus. Well, give me Stagecoach anytime! The receptionist advised me to allow one hour for the taxi (for a 10 minute journey!). I ordered it for half an hour before "at my own risk". He turned up 45 mins early so I felt obliged to go out thinking he would have the clock ticking over. The car stank of cigarettes - a hastily put out one and someone who needed a shower. I ended up arriving way too early, standing around in the grotty weather anyway and nearly eight pounds worse off. It's the bus everytime from now on! I don't know if I can mention the company name but they're in Crookes.....
  11. God! How dare they! Today I paid 1.50 from Crookes to town (because I was so cold). If I could have waited longer it would have only cost me 1.80 RETURN with Stagecoach. It will be cheaper to buy long johns, fur-lined gloves and wait a few minutes for the competition who are comfier, warmer and cleaner. First will lose out.
  12. I have 'push' emails set up with Orange on my phone and have suddenly stopped receiving them. Ive spoken to 6 people at Orange and no-one has solved it yet! Just wondered if it had happened to anyone else and if they sorted it out??
  13. Hi Thanks to James May, my son has expressed an interest in Scalextric. I wondered if he is too old (12) - I'm sure the basic oval circuit will bore him to bits after 10 minutes. I am mystified by the amount of different types on the market 1.32, 1.64 and digital etc. and also really shocked at the prices. A decent one is about 85 pounds minimum.! Is it worth buying or will it be stuffed in the cupboard after Christmas? Thanks
  14. Hi I've seen how much cheaper Ryanair are but have heard rumours that they are even more uncomfortable, unreliable than normal airlines. As we're flying to the Canaries (over 4 hours), I'd rather pay a bit more if this is the case. Any opinions? Thanks.
  15. After reading these posts I just had to go and buy a bottle. (1.33 in Somerfields actually). I haven't tried this for years since I went to live in Spain. It was yummy but not as strong or as thick as I remember it. It seemed a bit watered down. Maybe I was in Spain too long and got used to stronger flavours. It's lovely in Heinz tomato soup, though!
  16. Oooh! Where did you hear about this? Is it official? I can't wait!! Sad but it's about time Crookes had something new and a bit posher. Some of the shops look really tatty and could do with a lick of paint. The only nice thing is the flower display outside the PO - we need more!
  17. I've used Tesco 3 times and no real probs so far. Drivers are lovely and always on time. Last week the driver forgot the list so I had to check the goods with my emails (difficult as I had changed the order 4 times!). I found out that one item was missing, phoned cust. services and they immediately refunded my card. I will be trying Sainsbury's next, just to see how they are - same delivery charge etc. but 40 pounds min. spend. I always tell them not to substitute anything just to be on the safe side. So far so good. Cheers...
  18. Hi Telman Thanks for your reply - I feel less daunted by it now. I don't think I'll be wandering off to make a cuppa 'tho; I'll be watching it like a hawk! Cheers
  19. Hi I've just received my upgrade disks for Windows 7 but, as I'm quite happy with Vista, I wonder if it's worth doing. The instruction leaflet is quite basic and so is my computer knowledge! 1. It says to save software licenses - what does that mean? 2. I have to uninstall LAN Express Wireless etc. and Intel PROSet Wireless Software manually. Are they reinstalled automatically on W7 or will I have a nightmare looking for drivers etc. Has anyone done this upgrade and how did it go?? That's all. Cheers....
  20. No, Honda (a small green one?), I probably wouldn't. It's fairly obvious that 82 year olds are frailer, weaker etc. The point is that the driver, apart from being an idiot, couldn't even be bothered to slow down and find out if the man was o.k. Alright, I'm a big softy but the old chap reminded me of my dad and I wouldn't like it to happen to him OR for people to make puerile comments (DYKWhatever) afterwards. (God, I'm getting angry again - please don't say take a chill pill because americanisms get on my nelly as well!)
  21. So, you wouldn't have a non-descript pale green car would you? Did you leave your heart in it as well?
  22. This morning whilst waiting at the bus stop, I saw a car going up Crookes and turn right, down by the PO. An elderly man was already crossing and, even though he ran, the car still carried on at the same speed. The car brushed his side but, fortunately, the man wasn't knocked over thanks to his nifty footwork. The driver just carried on. The elderly man looked very shaken - he told me he was 82 - and had to sit down at the bus stop. So, YOU in the pale green little car (you can see why I didn't report it can't you!) at approx. 8.55 next to Crookes P.O - have you no heart or even a driver's licence? There, I feel better now...
  23. Hi Is there a website? I'd be interested in knowing more... Ashanta
